View Full Version : Why!?!?

Why is each day worse thatn the day before?

Every day I think I am going mad but I don't and I make it through to the next day where I wake up feeling even more terrified of myself and my thoughts......Why! It's not fair that I manage to get through without breaking down and yet it doesn't get any better.

I just want to cry and beg them to take me to the funny farm so that there is no chance my thought will result in me hurting myself or anyone else (unlikely I knw being that they've never made me!). Maybe it wou;d be eaiser than spending the whole time worrying that I am going mad or that I will do something dto make pother people think I'm mad or trying to put a brave face on for my hubby and kids, etc.

I can't see an end to any of this and I'm scared that I am being consumed by the thoughts of madness so much that I am losing myself.

Hi Annie

I’m really sorry you’ve woken up feeling like this – I kinda feel a bit like you this morning cos had to leave a haircut half way through yesterday then logged on here for some advice only to find I couldn’t read any of the posts cos I’d gone into full blown panic mode… managed to calm myself down by doing some yoga and having a bath, but know that all sounds very fluffy and ideal – I think perhaps the trick is to try and catch the panic before it gets too bad? I know if I’d have been in any more of a state I wouldn’t have been able to concentrate on the yoga… perhaps you could try and do 10 minutes when you get up? Although I know you’ve got children so it might not be so easy.

Even after the bath and feeling better, I still woke up with night terrors… so am feeling really rubbish because up until yesterday I thought I was starting to get the attacks under control… only thing I can recommend is that you try and take each day as a new one; reflect on yesterday sure, but only to congratulate yourself on the fact you got through it and then try and separate today as a different day with new possibilities… easier said than done I know, but it’s what I’m gonna try my hardest to do today… maybe it will help a bit to think that someone else is doing it with you?

Really glad it helped a bit - and helps me too y'know, to know someone is trying to get past this too :)

If you do think you could try and squeeze in some yoga I really would recommend it - it really helps because you have to slow down your breathing, which then helps to regulate all the other horrid panic attack symptoms. I use the Gerri Body Yoga dvd, which sounds really poncy but is actually really good cos there's sections so you can just do ten minutes or up to about an hour. Also there's a section specifically for relaxation- and Geri only comes out with one or two really annoying comments ;)

Am off to do it in a bit actually, but will be thinking of you & will be back on later - good luck with your day...

Yoga - do give this a go guys - its so helpful!!! A dvd I am still enjoying even after 2 years is YOGAZONE which I bought off amazon. A great one if you like your yoga slow and calm.

Another thing to try are Glenn Harrold Cd's which are really very good for getting you to calm down and relax - works everytime for me. Again these are sold on Amazon and you can have a good look at all the reviews first :)

"Supposing it didn't," said Pooh after careful thought.

*I think perhaps the trick is to try and catch the panic before it gets too bad?* Absolutely . I was rubbish at coping with full blown panic so I had to stop it before it started.

Talking yourself down is the best way but distrcation is the easiest way to start with.

hiya annie,

it is to be expected.. dont wait each morning to see if you are perfectly fine again, it doesn't work like that.. you have to accept that tomorrow you may feel terrible too, but that as the days go on, it will get better.. Its not all going to have gone away the next day..

just keep up with some kind of relaxation, or something that you really enjoy that you know makes you happy.. watch a funny movie..;) distract yourself to keep your mind off the horrible thoughts.. Believe me, i've had some very terrifying thoughts myself at times so i know how scary it is.. but they are just thoughts, it doesnt' mean you are going to do what you are thinking of.. just let them come and they will go again..

I did something at yoga once, when we were lying on the floor, eyes closed and breathed in postive thoughts and on the out breath we breathed out all the negative thoughts.. it actually really helped after doing it for a while.. really breath out the negative ones..

you wont go mad honey.. we're all here for you.. be kind to yourself..

big hug,
lisa :D

One of Geri's little sayings is 'in with faith, out with fear' - cheesy as anything but at the same time I kinda like it too :D
