Two weeks ago exactly I had a dental procedure to remove some overgrowth of gum in my mouth. I have quite uneven teeth and the gum had overgrown behind them in like a kind of mass.
Ive always been terrified of dentist so hadnt been since I was 14! I kind of ignored way teeth looked! However, recently went to dentist and had a filling done (go me!!) and decided to get braces, so they said they would have to remove the overgrowth of gum behind first. I saw a gum specialist last week who did this for me using electrosurgery, and they said its routine to always send a piece of tissue away!
I went last week to see the specialist for a review to check my gum was healing, and apparently it looked ok and seemed to be. Me panicing as usual though I said have you got the results (yep been scared it was cancer). He said no and said that results can take a while to come back especially if not marked urgent (which he didnt think my tissue was,as he didnt think was cancer he always said when I asked). He said that I should go see my normal dentist maybe in a months time just to check things were all still healing up (healing can take a while to be complete) and that he'd probs give me the gist of the report then, I wouldnt be called separately as the results were just thought to be a routine thing!
However today, when I checked answer phone there was a message at 9.30am saying Hi this is a message for Louise X, this is the gum specialist (well he gave his name) and give me a call, Im leaving the practice however today, but sure one of my colleagues will be happy to speak to you!
Now he had said that I wouldnt be contacted with the results of the tissue and he had already told me last week at my appointment he was leaving, and had said wouldnt need to see me again! He said just to see normal dentist in a month, so im FREAKING OUT!!! Why would he be calling!
Im imagining it must be going to be bad i.e. you have abnormal test results, its cancer!! He did only call the once however (my mum was in all day bar the 30 mins between 9.15am-9.45am the time when he left the answer phone message), and im assuming if was cancer he would have tried more than once today or at least have said call me back straight away when you get this or call urgently wouldnt he?? (or do medical ppl not say this as it might worry ppl and stop them calling???). On the other hand im thinking that specialist dentists are busy ppl and dont just call out of courtsey unless theres sumthin they really need to tell you, and he had said Id just hear the results the next time I saw my regular dentist!! Or could it have been a put my mind at rest call as he was leaving and finishing stuff up (I am a basket case at dentist lol).
Sooo worried wht do ppl think? Does the call sound like could be bad news! I feel so so scared, think Im going to be sick!
