Oh you poor thing, no it's definitely not deadly!!! It's a perfectly normal reaction to stress, we tend to clench our teeth together or grind our teeth in our sleep and things puts stress on the jaw joint which is called the tmj (short for temperomandibular joint) not sure if that's how it's spelled. Lot's of us anx sufferers get this, I've had it for about 15 years or more. It can also give you a pain which feels like earache but it is in the tmj which is very close to the ear.

Please don't worry about it, you'll only make it worse by being tense, as the tension subsides so will the symptoms.

Why on Earth would it be deadly?! Its TMD. Yes clenching hurts your ears alot because they are so close to the jaw, and sometimes you can't distinguish the pain between the jaw and ear. My ears get sore and gooey as well. It is definately not deadly.
Try to think about it from anothers person's point of view and imagine how they would react if you told them you had a pain in your ear because of jaw clenching. Would they think its deadly? Sorry to sound harsh but think about it!

Just to reassure you again, it is definately the jaw clenching and its not harmful.

I trust you have told your dentist about it because they can get you a mouth appliance for night time if its very bad, and this helps LOADS for me.
Its not deadly.
Hope it feels better soon!

No it's harmless. It's caused by muscle tension due to anxiety, and many people unknowingly clench their jaw or grind their teeth when anxious or suffer from generalized anxiety, I know I do.

The muscle that closes your jaw is actually the strongest in your body and it wraps around your skull. For me my jaw feels tense, numb, heavy a lot of the time. Sometimes it's sore.

It is somehow tied to neurotransmitter levels in your brain. Some psychotropic drugs can cause lockjaw. For the same reason it's caused by depression and anxiety. Who knows, nobody on earth really understands the brain, even doctors.

Many dentists and orthopedists will try to cash in on this, telling you that you need this or that. The only time you have a problem is if your jaw gets stuck open or closed, or dislocates. Or, if it's associated with a lot of pain. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it, It will go away on it's own.

Take a look in the mirror and open your mouth, watch to see if your jaw moves slightly to one side as you're opening, that often happens with TMJ (http://www.tmjremedyadvice.com/tmj-remedies/are-there-any-tmj-remedies/) problems. If it only bothers you when you press on it, you might be able to get by with just not pressing on it. But if it really hurts when you're eating or yawning or it starts locking, you might want to get it checked out. Many physiotherapists treat TMJ pain quite successfully - being specialists in joint mechanics, they know how to fix it.
