Hi I started having panic attacks last August, they are terrifying!!! I am gradually learning to deal with them but it's such a struggle. I can't believe how long some of you have suffered, the thought of fighting for the rest of my life fills me with dread. I have all the usuall symptoms chest pain, shaking, the feeling of impending doom, I fear for my health on a constant basis(this week Ive had a blood clot, heart attack, and a brain tumor, all in my head obviously) trouble breathing, dizziness, and many more. I need to stop this asap I have young children and my family are going to suffer....But wow this site is amazing only been looking for a couple hours and already things seem to make so much more sense.

:welcome:Ladymama. This is an illness of how we think. Thoughts become feelings instantly when nerves are sensitised . These feelings are very powerful and many here have experienced the symptoms you describe. There is a brilliant book by Dr Claire Weekes;SELF HELP FOR YOUR NERVES published by Thorsens ISBN 0-7225-3155-9.This is available from the NMP shop. Dr Weekes was a physician and scientist. She was a fellow sufferer (nominated for the nobel prize for medicine) and really understood this illness. She took the mystery out of it, and devised a simple programme for recovery. I can't recommend this enough. This will get better.
