Hi there

Thought I would introduce myself.

I have suffered from anxiety and panic for a large number of years.

My position at the moment (due to a lot of hard work) is that I can go to work (but only in the car) can walk round the block and do a short walk from work into town. I can do most things with my partner (but still feel anxious). My main problem is that I have trouble doing things on my own and being on my own, although I can stay at home on my own. I did go a little bit further the other day on my own but I made my other half drive behind me. Has anybody any suggestions as to how i can progress and do things on my own. Also dr has referred me for cbt. spoke to therapist who only does cbt clinic on a tuesday and this is one of my working days. and I can;t afford to take any more time of work. Apparently she does different clinics on different days. Its like only going to drs on specific days for certain ailments. its stupid. I am going to take this matter up with dr and demand cbt on a day when it suits me. Sorry for going on but any suggestions on going out and doing things on my own will be greatly appreciated.

Bobsy

Glad you managed to post ok in the end.

Lovely to see you here.

To do it alone you need to take small steps towards it and maybe cut down on partner following but being on the end of the phone if you need him. Don't let him follow you but be close by until you build the confidence up.

As for CBT - I am doing this at the moment and I am working extra hours and taking a days holiday and using the 7.5 hours spread out over many weeks so I can go to CBT. Most companies will let you take time off for this and you can always work through your lunch break sometimes to make up the time. They shouldn't stop you going.

You can fit this in if you talk to employers and tell them that you need this help and will they co-operate etc.

Good luck

Nicola

Hi Boobsie and welcome to the site, I am the same I go most places now but only with my wife or one of my kids in there cars, I walk to my friend house but its only about 50 yards away lol. I suppose I seem happy with this as just over a year ago I wouldn’t even leave the house. I think it does get better but it takes time, in the past years I have had some real hard scary times but they do always go. I think the secret is trying not to think about what you can do or not do and don’t let it worry you. As for CBT I have now been waiting 3 years and got a letter the other day to say I would be starting in a couple of months. Take care, hope you feel better soon. Vernon

Hi Bobsy and welcome,

Yes, small steps is the key!

I'm sure you'll get the CBT sorted one way or another, and if necessary remind your employer that successful CBT will be beneficial to them too, as it will increase your productivity.

Take Care!

Hi Bobsy,

We spoke yesterday and I am so glad you posted.

Alot of us on here have similar issues and I am abit like you in that I can get out reasonably well with company (but still anxious now and then) but not good on my own.

You are doing really well - don't beat yourself up for what you can't do at the moment but rather praise yourself for what you can!!!!

Have a good read of everything and a big welcome to you:D
