Panic Attack

Hi,

is a panic attack a full on blown deal where you feel physically in pain and emotionally helpless for a short period of time i.e. 5 mins???

If so I do not get this, I just sometimes have this sudden rush of a fear like feeling come over me and I think I am able to surpress it, so it does not turn in to anything more... Is this a panic attack?

I also sometimes get pains up my left arm and in to my left hand side of my chest, particularly where my heart is. What is this? In the back of my mind I worry it could be a heart condition???

Hello Guys,
pretty much new here but I've lived with Panic attacks for a good while now and I must say they are not nice. I've not actually had them myself, but my wife has struggled with them off and on for some time. It is life stopping stuff! Thankfully she is on the mend now but they can happen any time.
