View Full Version : Hi to you all
Hi there,
I am very new to this but having come across this webiste I have found at long last people who are/have going through the same experiences as myself. Let me introduce myself. My name is Mark, a 36 year old usually healthy and active guy, married with a lovely boy of 2. My problems really started about Sept last year. Having spent most of the year looking to move jobs I suffered a panic attack whilst at work. At the time it was definitely a "heart attack". I had pains in my left upper chest, shortness of breath and a bad cough. I asked to to be taken to A&E. HAving spent 12 hours in hospital having had various ECG's blood tests, X-Rays and blood pressure taken I was givena a clean bill of health. Unfortunately they didn't convince me and have since worried about my heart, particularly as I still get chest pains. I have had a stress test done which seemed to go fine and once again I was given an OK. This still hasn't convinced me. AT the beginning of this year I found thi site which I have found great comfort in. I no longer worry quite so much abou my heart, but my brain tumour, stomach cancer and the blood clot in my leg is giving me a little concern. I have always been a fit sporty guy so all of this is very weird. I can go a days feeling fine but then I get a day of which I do nothing but worry about chest pains, pins & needles, headaches and dizziness. I look up all kinds of things on the internet which confirms that I only have minutes to live. Even when people tell me that "I know I am not having a heart attack" doesn't help as that is just the thing I don't know. If I knew I would be fine. But I am having more good days than bad and that I am really trying to stay positive. I have found the advice on this site very comforting but know that it's a me thing and that it will be down to me to try and find a way of keeping the demons at bay.
Mark ,

Meg,
Thanks for that. You're right I have read about this site before joining. What I've done is printed certain pages with symptons on etc of anxiety so when I do have a wobble I can quickly refer to the page and all the time there is a simple explanation given. The trouble I have is convincing myself. It may take 2 mins or 2 days, but I do get there. I have been recommended a hypnotist which I may try.

Hi Mark
Welcome to the forum.
Karen
It is not easy to find happiness in ourselves, and it is not possible to find it elsewhere.
Welcome Mark,
It is very true that it is not east getting away from the "I'm going to die" syndrome. The CBT therapy should help with that, and so will this site, as so many people have had "heart attacks", "brain tumors", and various "cancers", yet are still with us.
I am really pleased that you have received a clean bill of health.
Take care mate,
Ray

Hi Mark and welcome, I too was admitted to hospital with nothing less than a heart attack which turned out to be a severe anxiety attack. I had all the tests done and nothing serious was found, but it took me ages to believe it was not a heart attack and I dont normally worry about my health, so your not alone.
The worse thing you can do is look on the internet as you will find you have every illness there is to have.
Come on here and read or post, post about anything, the replies are always helpful and reassuring.
It is good you have more good days than bad, and really glad to hear you have a clean bill of health. Take care. xxxxxxx

To All,
Thanks for your replies. Not that I wish ill on anybody but it is nice to hear from people who are in a similar position who can relate to what I am experiencing. I feel that it is important that you are able to communicate with people who know what is going on. It was only the other day when I was having chest pains I was told by a member of my family that I shouldn't worry as I know that it's not a heart attack which infuriated me as that is just the thing, I can't convince myself straight away that it's not. What I can say is that despite all these "very real" symptoms I am starting to become more relaxed about them. Controlled breathing and stetching has helped. I shall take on board all your advice and comments as I will get the better of this - eventually.
Mark.

Hi Mark
Just wanted to give you a warm welcome aboard.
CBT will definitely help with Health Anxiety type problems so you could look into that with your doctor.
Glad you are finding the site of some help already.

Hi Mark,
Welcome to the site.
I have been suffering with Headaches and dizziness on and off for a few months now and I assumed there was something seriously wrong.
Geeting checked out thoroughly is a great first step, then you can start your recovery from there on in.
