I have the chest pain Jackie, although not quite constant, but have had mine checked out and was reassured it was anxiety related, I sometimes find this hard to believe especially on a bad day but I try to push it to the back of my mind and distract myself with other things, easier said than done I know, have you had yours checked out.

yes had it checked. dont laugh but at least 60 ecgs 3 scans many blood tests 5 healthy kids and many more tests. can suffer any other pain but not this one, not the intensity of it at all but just where it is. if this pain was anywhere else for 4 years i would b able to ignore it

alexis thanks for getting back i was really beginning to feel i was the only one who had it more or less all the time

cheers jackie

I dont think anyone will laugh at you having 60ecgs etc, we need this constant checking and reassuring to make sure we are OK, has any advice been given on how to help, Im not an expert but wonder if something like hypnotherapy or something would help, I am no where near as bad as you and are able to cope or put it to the back of my mind a lot of the time, its the intrusive thoughts I hate, :Dalways something eh?
I hope others come along and give you some good replies, I find weekends are often quieter than weekdays, good luck!!!

hi Jackie,

so sorry to read that you are really struggling.. with this pain, I can imagine you are really hyperventilating too which will make it worse.. you need to calm your breathing.. you could try slow relaxation.. i sometimes sit cross legged in a dark room with a candle on.. really concentrate on the candle and notice your breathing.. in for 5 out for 7 or whatever feels comfortable.. the outbreath longer..

calm is the key. and slow down.. In my bad panics I also got my husband to read to me.. this is also very calming.. could you try this? maybe your children could practice their reading with you!!

let us know how you get on,

lisa

I get chest pain but not constantly - stretching helps and I also think I sometimes hold my breathe which doesn't help.

When I am tense I feel it in my chest as well.

I get this chest pain the day after a few drinks!

I had a bottle of wine on Saturday and I suffered all yesterday, all last night (hardly slept) and all today. It's as if my mind cannot think about anything else. I can't tune into anything else as it makes me anxious. It's as if I am scared to let go of recognising the pain.

If that makes sense.

I only get it this pervasive after Alcohol - this is one of my anxieties that I don't understand yet. This is also how my anxiety started - bad panic attack after big night out.

I know this is common, but anyone know any reasons / solutions to this one?

Thanks and regards to Jackie

James

I have suffered chest pain for long periods of time, but what i noticed was how it stayed due to the fact i was constantly focusing on it... which it very much sounds like you are doing now. Part of me can create little pains or problems depending on what i want to be worried about, however wierd that might sound. But for you its become a habit. It is a shame that to everyone it seems so very dangerous to be having chest pains when really it is a VERY commen symptom of anxiety/panic/stress. I wish it was easy to just drop it, and just think its anything like a tooth ache or back ache but never its the hardest thing in the world to try and grasp that everything is ok. But i can assure you with all those tests and everything... NOTHING is going to happen to you. I hope you can find a way to overcome your bad thoughts!

Never say never, opps said it twice..

I have chest pain too. Mine seems worse at night. Have you tried breathing exercises as this seems to ease mine a little. Hope you start to feel better soon:D.

Jackie,

I came across this info, that I thought might be useful to you. Hope you find some relief.

http://www.anxietycentre.com/anxiety-symptoms/chest-pain.shtml

http://www.stress-anxiety-depression.org/anxiety/anxiety-symptoms.html

From the sites:

You may experience a tightness or pressure in the chest. Sometimes you may feel shooting pains, or muscle twitches, or just an uneasiness or fullness in the chest area which causes you concern. Some think they may be having a heart attack which can sometimes cause enough fear to cause intense fear and even panic attacks.

-and-

Chest pains are a frightening symptom of anxiety...........it is sometimes possible to tell the difference between the chest pains associated with anxiety and those of a heart attack. The chest pain of a heart attack is a knifelike pain that usually does not start in the chest. It may be possible to diminish the chest pain from anxiety with deep breathing exercises or a massage.

Hope this helps - JC

thanks jc for the advice, the sites are great, i no it is my mind that is not functioning well and hope fully my heart is but hard to tell myself that when pain is at its worse.

chucklehound have just got a book on hyperventilation so hopefully this will give me tipes on better breating skills as i really feel i am doing that wrong

how to ignore pains in such a crucial area of your body is a thing that elludes me at the moment. but my deep desire to live without this fear will hopefully make it possible

hope you all get peace of mind, so few have it yet it is crucial for calm life

this is what i wish for you all peace of mind.

WHAT DO YOU WISH FOR? ACTUALLY I WILL START A NEW THREAD ON THIS

Jackie:

I too have the pain the chest. Right behind and to the left of the sternum bone. Sometimes my entire chest feels tight and it is difficult to breathe. It comes without warning and often at times that I am not feeling any massive amounts of stress. Doctor checked me out and said I am fine.

I even get pains in my back and shoulder blades. My neck has pain from the front to back as my muscles are super tense!

You are not alone!

hi jackie,

just come on here for a bit of reasurance myself, but i think can help you abit, i recently visited a chap called jan de vries, he does the flower tincture things.. and complimentary medicine... i visited him and he prescibed this brilliant herbal stuff called No3 compound tincture... ive looked all over the web for details of this, and cant find anything, I would suggest you book to see Jan, or seeing though this is like what I suffer(ed) then this No3 stuff can be bought from abbots of leigh. and to help you out heres the number off the bottle, 01942 671766. Sincerely this has helped me, it is for panic attacks, and has done me alot of good. Saying that just now i have had a sharp pain in my chest. which is what alarms you... as your mind thinks all sorts. But try not to worry jackie, easier send than done, but after a panic you think just calm down as worrying only perpetuates things... I really hope this helps.
