I'm a newbie from the Philippines! Well I bumped into this site searching for some additional info and assistance re my disorder(HVS). I got this through constant stress that I put into my body without me noticing it, driving for hours a day and still pushing myself to exertion working-out in the gym! And too much caffeine intake. My first symptoms was sleep disturbances, irritable cough and sore throat, annd finally my worst attack was when I was disturbed in the middle of the night grasping for air, and felt so panicky that thought I would die! Everything was so chaotic! After some ER visitation I decided to admit myself and finally I was diagnosed with HVS. Everything is fine with me, ECG, x-rays and Pulmonary function test. I started to take up Xanax, with the consent of my psychologist. After 2 weeks I began working-out again in the gym. Within 2 months I recovered quickly with my disorder, with just some sleep disturbances once in a while. Then after 8 months I did a terrible mistake! I drove for almost 6hrs then without some adequate rest I rushed to the gym to workout. the bham! I was hit by a panic attack in the middle of my workout! It was so bad that I rushed myself to get home, numbness in my hands, shortness of breath, and some dizziness that made so panicky at thta time! Then I resorted to yoga to calm my mind and body and just doing walking exercises. I stopped lifting weights for almost 2 weeks, having some kind of doubts or fear to hit the gym again worrying I could get an attack while exercising again! And yes, I have difficulty gaining my composure to get back in shape, hitting the gym! I slowly phased myself but after 15-20mins. of exercising I feel a very mild to moderate anxiety, caused by rapid heartbeats and shortness of breath through physical exertion! Yoga helped me a lot having a clear mind, body and soul and mental peace. Breathing exercises also helped me lot controlling panic attacks...

I'm assuming you're talking about hyperventilation syndrome.

Glad you can now control the panics, sound like you need to slow life down a bit.

Yes yoga is fab for anxiety.

Hi exan, lots of helpful advice on this site. You are probably associating working out with anixous feelings now. You might be better doing yoga and buliding up to gym slowly. They say excercise is good for anixety though!!

Yeah! Thanks for all your warm welcome! I've been absorbing the positive thoughts that I've learned so far from this site, and applying it to overcome my disorder. I'm slowing things in now, much more of time-management, reassessing myself. Although I'm having a hard time, I'm still givin time to myself to gain back my composure. Thanks again guys!:)
