Hi it will take your body & mind to reajust to the medication. I am on the same medication & was told the same as yourself that the propranol will stop the panic attacks. Personally I dont think they do, what prescription are you on, im on a total of 120mg per day, altho they do tend to calm me down they havent taken the attacks away totally.

I hope you can get yours under control soon. Here to chat if you need. x:hugs:

Medication starts to work but not as quick as a few days or weeks but there is so much you can do to support yourself during this time. I would suggest reading about panic attacks on this site, lots of great information. One key point......A PANIC ATTACK WONT HARM YOU........Feels like hell for a bit but it wont hurt you.

From what I know propranalol will not stop panic attacks. It does lessen their impact and takes the edge of anxious situations that could cause an attack.
They work on your body stopping it from reacting to the adrenaline the anxiety will cause.
Propranalol is a good start to getting better, but its not a miracle drug otherwise we would all be well.

I've been here before. Wanting to just run out of meetings because i was so anxious/panicky. The way ive reduced the impact of these feelings, is just to let go and stop worrying about it happening. If you worry more, they will happen more. So you have to stop worrying, and try and just think 'well, if they happen then they happen'.

My problem was that i was trying to control everything and i was over analysing everything. I got panick attacks whilst talking, and with the attention on me at work/socialising. The way i have reduced the impact of these are by just moving on, and stopping analysing it.

Its hard, but its worth trying. Because constantly thinking about it only makes it worse. Try and let go

Hi nettie
I take Propanalol too & have been on it now for nearly 2 years since I had my first ever panic attack.

I still feel panicky at times but, like Rory has mentioned, in my own experience, thinking about it tends to make it worse. I have found myself walking into town or standing in a queue and this feeling starts to creep up out of nowhere, for no apparent reason! What I do is breath deeply and practice positive self talk. I start to think "I'm going to be fine, I can do this, I am just having a wobble but it will pass" in a kind, soothing voice. It can be really hard but if you keep on trying, you are refusing to let the panic rule you. I was on the verge of turning back towards home a few weeks ago but I didn't, I just tried very hard to think positively and it worked. I think we just need to be kind to ourselves as we can be our own harshest critics at times!

With time and the support of some great people on this forum you will start to feel better in yourself. :hugs:Take care. xxx

What do you do when you are standing (I have a post on this) and you start feeling faint? I get that sometimes when I have to stand in one place for awhile, like this morning in the kitchen I was standing and felt faint, then I felt my pulse go up. Then I wonder, is my blood pressure low or is this this anxiety? I mention this because when you're at a store standing in line, it can happen. Anyway - it puts me in a panic because I don't know if it's low blood pressure (like postural hypotension) or just the anxiety.
