I'm wondering if using tampons may help my bleeding phobia, as I have a fear of gushing since my heavy periods started six months ago due to the op I had (D&C), I now have an awful phobia.

I've never used them before, my mum always said they were horrible things and can cause toxic shock, kind of puts you offhttp://www.baby-greenhouse.co.uk/smilies/wink.gif I am also quite squemish at the thought of having something up there as I walk around;-; but if it helps my fear I'm willing to try them.

Stupid questions but is toxic shock rare? (main worry to me i guess) Can they get lost up there? (surely not) and how far up should you put it?http://www.baby-greenhouse.co.uk/smilies/wink.gif

Toxic shock is rare and usually caused if a tampon is left inside for ages, they sometimes get forgotton about but can't get "lost" as there is nowhere for them to get lost (:D) and clear instruction for use or incuded in the packet they come in.

Probably best not to go into the exact process here :)

I never used them as a teenager but started to in my twenties and have never looked back. I have VERY heavy periods so they are a God send. I use a super tampon, a folded tissue and then maxi-thin pads. The folded tissue seems to help centre flow when it does leak out and helps prevent side or back leaks which can be common during very heavy flow). The nice thing about them is that you don't get the awful sensation of losing blood and once you do you just change it (if I only wore tampons I would be changing them A LOT so that is why I wear pads too!)

I am on so heavy that I still get the occasional gush if I am out and it is on my heaviest day, but it is so comfortable.

As mentioned above TSS is rare and usually when people use the more absorbent ones when they have lighter periods.

Try them. You will be very happy once you do.

Another alternative is the Menstrual cup but they seem a lot of work although many people that have used them swear by them.

Hope that this helps.
