hi all

i just wanted 2 ask something 2 see if others get this aswell.
sometimes i get a thought stuck in my head and it will go round and round and no matter how hard i try 2 force it away it stays there..it can be something silly like the other day it was a click noise but i would keep thinking the same noise over and over again..i try to mentally force the noise away but it keeps going in my head.also in dreams aswell i might dream of a sertain senareo then want 2 move on but it will go back again as if its on a loop i cant break.
i no this might sound strange but its me and i dunno if its normal or not.
i also get wierd feelings in my hands sometimes like something feels ilke a wet rubbery feeling and i have 2 let go and rub my fingers as it doesnt feel right.

thankyou 4 listening 2 me waffle on lol and any feedback will be helpfull

thanks ..russell

Hi,
This is really common with anxiety and i get it all the time. I will just quote something out of a Claire Weekes book that may help.
'normally we rest our mind during the moments when we look and listen without concentrating too intensely; unimportant thoughts flit so lightly from subject to subject we are hardly aware of them. However, when mentally fatigued thoughts do not flit, they seem to stick. This is one reason why a mentally tired person gnaws at a worry, feeling unable to release it, especially if the worry holds fear'
Dont try so desperately to get rid of the repetative thought, i had some good advice once.
'what would you do if i told you not to think of a pink elephant? of course it would imediatley spring to mind'. If you try and force these thoughts out they will just get a tighter grip.
Hope this helps.
Take care
Poppy

Yep its normal.

Thats awesome poppy! I like it, explained well and relates so much to my anxiety. I am controling it now mainly with a similar thing of accepting (not trying to force things out - just accept them). I like it indeed!

I get this too :) I think it's common. I try not to get rid of the thoughts and just let them be as trying not to think about it makes it worse!

I feel like you do and know how hard it is.

Dont mess up the best things in your life, just because at present you are unsure who you are.

It is extremely common to have these stuck inrusive thoughts and they stay as long as you are paying them any attention. Try singing a really annoying song and see if you can switch your thoughts to that instead.

Your anxiety is the human representation of the pictures that you paint using your many vivid colours of revolving and reoccurring thoughts.

Very common in anxiety.

Pips has always said try and imagine a lollipop lady's stop sign and move onto another thought. I do this fairly sucessfully these days.

"Supposing it didn't," said Pooh after careful thought.
