Hi, I was wondering if any of you know if there is a risk taking the pain killer Tramadol with the anti depresant Mirtazapine? I got told that there is a risk of the potentially fatal seratonin syndrome if tramadol is mixed with ssri's such as Citalopram, but with Mirtazapine not being an ssri's wonded if it would be okay, as i have twisted my knee badly and nothing i have tried has eased the pain.. Cheers Dan

I would give your chemist a ring. I wouldnt want to trust the advice of anyone other than a healthcare professional about something like this.

Hi Dan,

Tramadol should have only been prescribed from your GP anyhow so he/she should know what meds you are on. There is no interaction between mirtazipine and tramadol, you should be fine but if you are worried consult a pharmacist.

Ok this came back:

Using Tramadol and Mirtazapine together may increase the risk of seizures. As a result, Tramadol and Mirtazapine treatment/dose should be regularly reviewed when these drugs are used together.
