Hi,

I keep getting pains and tightness in my chest, bad heads (felling loads of pressure and heavy, normal starts when i start thinking about my chest pains) and numb feelings, which are really worrying me. I have been to the doctors, they have listened to my heart and i have had an ECG, which was fine. I have also had a load of blood tests which all came back fine. I keep feeling like there is something wrong with me, I no deep down that there is no problem with me, the doctor has told me this ( ihave been to the doctors about 6 times). I've had trouble sleeping because of this the past couple of nights.

I need to try to stop myself feeling like this can anyone suggest anything to help?

Thanks

Greg

The doctor and friends and family have told me that my problems are down to anxiety and i just can't seem to sort myself out.

Hi Greg,

It is all to do with changing your way of thinking and putting things into perspective. Instead of automatically thinking everything is something serious, start to think rationally about them.

Ask your doctor about being referred for a CBT course for health anxiety, I did this and it really did help me.

Sorry, but what is a CBT course?

No worries, it stands for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, it helps you to retrain your way of thinking, and really does work.

greg tracy i s right, these thoughts are making the symptoms worse and a cbt councillor will help. it would be great if you could do this soon as i feel the sooner you do it the quicker the results will work.

also in the mean time pick up a copy of claire weekes book called self help for your nerves and this will helpyou understand what you are going through and what your symptoms mean

we are here to o as a help if you need us

take care

I will get in touch with my doctor to see about these courses. I'm on tablets for the anxiety - Propranolol, i have been taking these for just over a week and they seem to be helping a little but not much.

I think its also worrying me because i have just bought a house with my girlfriend and i'm worried that i'm going to start affecting her. I have also applied to the police force, i don't want this to affect my chances of getting in. My current job is also getting me down, i have nothing to do, i have had nothing to do since Christmas (yes it is hell), so i have nothing to do all day and thats when i feel the worse as well as during the night.

You aren't alone - this is very common. I have often had chest/breathing problems which I was convinced were something awful but were my anxiety and thinking about it made the symptoms worse.

You will get lots of good advice and support here.

Not one to hype up the meds, but Klonopin has been very helpful with me in dealing with my tension, stress and axiety. It will relax you very quickly. Ask your doctor about it!

i went to see my docotor (well not my doctor but another at the surgury) yesterday - all he was interested in doing was giving me stronger tablets. I told him how i felt and all he said was that if i didn't want stronger tablets then i needed to do more exercise. He would not entertain the option of therapy.

Now the only option i have to take myself for therapy or try to combat this head on with exercise like he advised.

unless there is anyway of getting free online therapy?

it wasn't my normal doctor that i saw - it was one of the ones in for 2-3 months - never seen him before, Sort of last minute appointment. If i wanted to see my GP i would have to book the appointment 2 weeks in advance (or unless i was lucky and got a cancelation appointment). If i'm honest i don't want stronger tablets, i want help to over come how i am feeling.

I might make an appointment to see my doctor, but then again in a few weeks i might be ok. :D

Thanks for the link i'm having a look at that now.
