I am freaking out about a swollen lymph node under my ear,its been there for a few months. Its not painful but it sometimes aches around it.The doctor gave me antibiotics and said to go back in a week or 2 if it doesnt go down.I have just had blood work done i.e fbc, lft, kidneys and they were ok.Would something be picked up on these tests? I am worried because i havent felt well with sweating, fatigue, diarrhea and i am starting to think about lymphoma. Any advice?

Zippy I'm sure the blood tests would have ruled anything sinister out. I've had a swollen lymph node in my neck for a long time and it aches sometimes too. Then I poke and prod it and make it worse!! Sometimes these things just flare up and go away again with no rhyme nor reason. Maybe your other symptoms are due to worrying about the worst scenario? It's easy to wind yourself up at times, but I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.

I have had a swollen node under my left ear for a good few years now ....it can go up and down all the time and it never fully disappears i too have had full bloods done and they were fine , i guess if it was anything bad the amount of time its been like that for id be a goner . It did scare me at first but ive calmed down a lot now with that and it really doesnt worry me much at all , wish i was like that with everything else. Im sure all is fine and you can take reassurance that your bloods were good xx

So do you think it would have grew in 3 months and i would be really ill if it was anything serious?

Hi zippy

I think one of the things to remember is that if you get a symptom and it just stays the same for ages, then it's unlikely to be anything nasty. It's the ones that progress that you probably need to pay more attention to. If you really had lymphoma, if you'd had swollen glands for 3 months, you'd probably have a lot more of them now, and have other symptoms too. But DON'T GOOGLE THEM!!

if the doctor said go back you should go back but dont worry about it because maybe they will just say here is stronger antibiotics. you dont have lymphoma thats why doctor has not referred you to a specialist

This is a different doctor and i only showed him this last week but its been there for about 3 months.I showed another doctor last month and he said this isnt what you have came with and wont be causing these symptoms. They just keep saying my bloods are ok.I am worried that this is my problem and its been undetected.
I have had bloods done, chest x ray, pelvic scan and bowel endoscopy and all ok but i still feel ill and this node isnt going.

i understand what you mean zippy because i have testicular aches and had ultrasound all fine and he said just take painkillers for it there is no pathology!

But i think the key point to remember is our bodies do not follow rules they do wierd things which are not serious but just are and we have to accept this to move on!

think of it like this you are scared something is undetected maybe there is nothing to detect tho. they would not fob you off if they thought it maybe serious

I know what you mean that they wouldnt fob me off but i keep thinking i havent really brought the lymph node to there attention at the beginning and as soon as i showed him he said take antibiotics and if it goes its nothing to worry about. As soon as he said that i thought so if it doesnt it is something to worry about and i dont feel like its with an infection.

dont worry zippy its just a figure of speech when they say 'if it goes down dont worry' i dont think they means if it doesnt you should worry it just may have another cause but nothing catastrophic which you are fearing!
