I am coming off Citalopram and am having really bad head zaps which are getting worse as I chalk up another day without the pills. But whats worrying me is when I get the zap I hear a buzzing in my ears while the zap is lasting. Is that normal?? Can I take anything to alleviate the zaps and if I can't how long are they likely to stay?

Many thanks

Hi, I remember this being very common whilst comming off citalopram, which was about 4-5 months ago. If you really want to come off them just bare with it and it really will pass i promise you that! I'm not sure about anything you can take to relieve it i just toughed it out and it did go away. Hope this helps you.

I have heard that it is very common when coming off of medication. It must be unpleasant but bear with it and it will pass :)

Hi

I had horrible head zaps when i came of seroxat too quickly,i know how horrible they can be.
My doctor then prescribed the liqued form of seroxat and i reduced the dose very slightly once a week until i was only on a tiny ammount each day so i didnt have such horrible strong head zap sensations or any other withdrawl symptoms. I think the best way to avoid these zaps is to come of the med VERY gradually!
Maybe there is a liqued form of citalopram? Or if you have just stopped taking your medication suddenly then remember they wont last forever and will eventually pass!
Hope you feel better with it soon!
