Hello There,

I live in Maidstone, as it happens and have been souring the county for months to try and find some sort of support group. Have had panic attacks and anxiety since I was 18, am now 34, but it has reached a new level in the past year. Nothing much in my life to complain about, I'm a lucky fellow really, but that doesn't seem to make any difference, and job seems to trigger it quite badly. Don't know if others have replied, hope so, and I'd be happy to sort out a group in the local area.

Hope you are well, and hope this reply is good news.

Alex

Hi Alex,
Doesnt seem there are too many people down this way! The nearest support group i found was in brighton, perhaps we should start our own one for the south east/kent border area :) there must be people down here who suffer too????

Well it's looking like a goer...surely three makes a 'group'. but it would be nice to see who else is out there. I'm happy to host, my wife won't mind, and I'm sure we can always use the pub up the road, or I'm happy to travel. Maybe we should put another posting up to see if anyone else is around...

I am in Tunbridge Wells and keen to meet.

has anyone arranged anything

Alex33.33

Wow! That certainly makes a group. I don't know the best way of now arranging things. Are any of us unable to travel? I'm happy to go to Tonbridge, or Tunbridge Wells, or like I say, people can come here to Maidstone. Would it be worth agreeing on a date we can all make and perhaps exchanging emails?

I'm definitely in, I've been really hoping for a meet-up for ages!

I live near Sevenoaks, but it's really good for me right now to try to push myself to go a bit further afield, and I've loved Tunbridge Wells since I was a kid (although any place that's decided is fine for me). I actually had my first CBT session there today too :)

How about we set a provisional date for a couple of weeks or a few weeks' time?

Does anyone have any suggestions of a good place?

Shall we set a date then? Just some ideas:

How about early evening one day next week?

Would midweek (i.e. not a weekend when places will be busy!) be best?

How about a couple of drinks in a quietish pub not too far from the station, if people are coming by train?

Does anyone have any suggestions for a venue?

:)

Hi guys :)

Well, we have two of us so far very keen to meet up with a group in the next week or two (one lady - Elw - and one gent - me) so we just need a few more!

Elw suggested Wetherspoon's in Tunbridge Wells which I think is a great choice. It's a ten-minute walk from the station and very easy to find, spacious and relaxed :)

We can both meet from 5:30 onwards, but understand later would be best for other people probably, so no problem!

So, how about Tuesday, Thursday or Friday next week, or any evening the week after?

Come on guys, let's get a nice group going in Kent! Have a nice chat, some laughs, and most importantly support each other :)

Hi everyone! Tuesday should be quiet in there. I definately wouldn't recommend a weekend as Kerrie says.

They have booths at the back you can sit about 8 people on so we could get one of them.

What time can people get there?

So is this actually happening then? Or did it happen already?

if it's not happened yet & if people want to PM me, then I could get peoples details and clarify with everyone a suitable time that hopefully everyone can make....

thanks

Nigel

Sorry I haven't posted but I've had to be offline for a while, but am back now :)

Kerrie, no problem at all about the paper bag, we all understand, that's why we're here!

Nigel you haven't missed it, so hopefully we can arrange something soon and all get to meet, we could have a good number of us at this rate!!

I think we have one member who can only make Thursdays, does anyone know if it's too busy in there on a Thursday?

I can't make next week but don't mind at all if people want to arrange something.

I'd be really keen to meet up the following week, so maybe:

Weds 6th

or

Thurs 7th of October?

Also, if people can post here roughly what time they could arrive that'd really help! :)

Thursday 7th October at Weatherspoons in Tunbridge Wells is fine by me...once we meet once, I'm sure that the next meeting will be easier to sort out, or a regular time can be sorted out. Could be there by 7pm.

Sounds good to me! Everyone else?

I'll probably be there a little earlier, but will have a coffee and read the newspaper :)

Yes, I'm sure the next meeting will be easier to make once we've met once!

I'm happy with Thursday 14th instead???? A little late if better for Emma...or Wednesday 6th, if that's easier. Just can't do Tuesdays. But I have a young baby so the sooner I can sort out the evening the better it is. We'll get there!

Cheers Alex!

Three of us (so far -hopefully more!) can definitely make next Wednesday - so shall we aim for that, and then we can arrange the next meeting when hopefully Kerrie can join us too?

I'll be there from after the shops shut on Weds (6ish) but quite happy to sit with a coffee and a paper (or anxiety workbook!) until everyone else can get there :)

Alex33.33

Are we still on for Wednesday? I'll try and get there as soon as I can, I work in Medway, so will need to get through the traffic. I have been to that weatherspoons once, but don't remember the lay out brilliantly...Is there are part of the pub where we'll aim to meet/wait?
Should be there about half six...and for the record I look somewhere between Woody Harrleson, Max Branning and that Heston Bumelthal...sort of.

Yes we are Alex! Would anyone else like to join us (there are three of us so far)?

So let's aim for half six onwards, but absolutely not worry about being late - stuff happens, and it can't be helped :)

I should be there from about six so will look for one of the booths at the back that Elw mentioned. Shall we exchange mobile numbers beforehand to make things easy?

I could also write NMP or something on a big piece of paper and prop it up against a menu?!

Kerrie, wishing you a wonderful holiday :)

Hallo everyone

I've only just discovered this website today - I wish I'd known about it years ago ! It's exactly what I've been looking for as I used to suffer from panic attacks quite badly plus a bit of agoraphobia. They don't affect me as much as they used to but it has definitely affected where I can drive to on my own, i.e. distance, busy towns, motorways, by-passes.

Anyway, to get to the point ! Did you all manage to meet up in Tunbridge Wells recently ? I live about 20/25mins away from there ! I can't manage to join a meeting on a couple of evenings due to work commitments and also to be honest of driving in the dark re. bringing on a panic attack - sounds stupid doesn't it

Please let me know how it went anyway - you all sound a lot more capable than me !

Sorry for the late report everyone, things have been hectic and I haven't been able to get online much for a few days...

Well, I think I can say that the first meeting was a tremendous success!! :) We had a good chat for about three hours and found a lot in common, and it was just so nice to speak to people who understand, chat about normal stuff too, and socialise without worrying that people wouldn't understand if we got panicky :yesyes:

Clare - welcome to the forum, and it would be wonderful if you'd like to join us at some point :) Don't think we're more capable - I was a bag of nerves myself, and the others looked calmer, but I'm sure we were all a bit (very?) anxious at first.

This will apply to others too - we're all from different places, so we can meet in places that suit everyone. We also talked about a weekend daytime meet soon as that would be easier for a lot of people.

Hope to meet even more people next time!

Hi everyone

Just to say we had a really good meet up in Tunbridge Wells the other week and it would be really good if anyone else nearby could come along.

Although it is very nerve wracking, it is lovely to meet fellow anxious people!

Hope to meet some of you soon

Tunbridge Wells was a great success....the next meeting is in Maidstone, next weekend. Looks like sunday (24th) in the afternoon, although I'm quite happy to arrange for Saturday (23rd) evening if train times and travel are easier then.

Would suggest that the Weatherspoons near Maidstone East or The Royal Albion next to Fremlins Walk in town would be good.

I'm sure the four of us who met before would be hoping that others are able to join us. Feel free to bring medication and paper bags, or to be in the middle of a moment, we were all a bit anxious, yet we had a lot in common, and I have found myself making progress in the last few weeks, which I am sure is at least in some part, down to our meeting.

Take Care

Benny

Hi! I live in TW and am battling with agrophobia, panic attacks and depression. I am also a mentor on Horsesmouth as I have been down this road before and want to help support other people in the same boat.
I would be interested in meeting up in the new year if we can get a group of people together.
If you need a mentor in the meantime you can find me on www.horsesmouth.co.uk (http://www.horsesmouth.co.uk) and my user name is angel68.
