hello to everyone, my name is peter, i live in cardiff united kingdom!!

i have social phobia/social anxiety and have been suffering with it for around 15 years. its been so long, i feel it's just a part of me now, it has had a huge negative impact on my life, i avoid every social situation, i have lost all my friends through it...its even very difficult walking down the street. i pray my car never breaks down so i don't have to use public transport!! i'm a fun, sometimes surprisingly outgoing person and that makes it all the more difficult...(i want to have fun but i can't!) loneliness is very hard for me...when i know i have to settle in for yet another night. it goes on and on and..........![Sigh...]

i'd like to hear from others with social phobia, particularly from the south wales area!!!!!!!!!

Hi Peter

Welcome to the forum. I suffer from social phobia too and have been making progress with this since joining this forum. Slowly and gently pushing at the boundaries of your comfort zone will help you on the road to recovery.

I have gone from not speaking or seeing anyone, to being able to finally use the phone and have made some great friends here, some of whom I met up with several times last year. There is hope of feeling more comfortable in these situations.

Have you had any formal help with this?

You may find FEAR OF MESSAGES (http://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/showthread.php?t=6303) helpful.

You will find a lot of help and support here.
