Hi Everyone,

I have had anxiety for 10 years but no physical manifestations since Jan this year. I had a very bad 2005, lots of personal problems and a house guest from hell who slept with my fiance. So on Jan 13 this year I got depersonalisation for first time, which freaked me out - thought I was starting to be epileptic or have a brain tumor. Two days later got dizziness which lasted 5 days until betahistine hydrochloride tabs kicked in. I get a locking feeling in my eyes, like they are covered in a film, although I can see very well. Optician said eyes are ok. GP did blood test and said all is ok, but I didnt believe him. I'm sure he's hiding stuff from me, but he's given me 2mg diazepam which I'm scared to take in case they make me faint or collapse or something. Had soemthing which I think is a panic attack 2 weeks ago, I just had a very strong feeling that I was about to die. GP said this is normal during panic attack, is this true? Am on list for CBT treatment. I kep a bag packed in case I have to run out quickly, even joined Bupa in case it turned out to be a serious physical problem. When will this go away??

Hello Farr, and welcome to the site.

Sorry to hear of your woes. It is usually very difficult to convince yourself that you are not seriously ill, and if you read the posts here that tell a similar story, it will help convince you that this is really survivable!

Take care,

Farr,
baby i feel for you i so do,i know how frightened you are , i know im there besideyou all the way ,ive lived with it for years.
Now let me tellyou ,like you im scared to do anything that may just tip me ,and so taking medication is a major thing for me to, however you cant feel no worse than you do now darlin ,i know that... so think about it the medication will opnly do good not bad... well im on diazipan ...scared of taking it , but just had to..you are on 2mg the same as me as i never wanted anything too heavy, coz of the kids.. and i tell you what it does it just chills you a little, well it takes the panic away..imnot saying you wont still be worried coz you can be, but it helps you sleep a little better at night and keeps the panic attacks at bay .
I do hope you feel better, always try and do something even if its blinking ironing..whatever dont sit and think on it, try not to talk ya self stupid over it,try not to get obsessed with it, possibley you are already...but to reduce the state of fear best works when you occupy yourself, even if you get tired, sooner or later the anxiety thinks oh s**t this perosn isnt feeding me with thougts im of, and so it walks away from you and sadley goes on to bother someone else.

I hate to see anyone suffer like this

Hello Farr

Sorry you had a bad year.

2mg of diazepam is fine to take when you need to.

The dizziness is also common and there are also often vision problems incorporated.

Hi Farr All i can say is like most other ppl have said to you is its soooooooo common to think you are going to die, ive gone as far as parked up for hrs in the local hospital car park in case i needed medical attention in a hurry and thought i wouldnt make it frm home or id die on the way, ive suffered wid panic attacks for 15 yrs i still manage to live a semi-normal life, well i do now of course that wasnt always the case but if you are goin thru it at the moment my words probably wont be of great comfort to you but I promise it will get better and you will eventually be able to control them instead of them controling you, i can now drive anywhere i want even goin on a foregin holiday this year wid friends, gawd the thoughts of that 2 or 3 years ago would have been enuff to send me to the A+E dep. diezapam will make you sleepy not sure if they are any good for panic attacks, i was on xanax for years which worked to keep me calm on the bad days, now i take lexotan and i find them brilliant, i take one a day ppl say " arnt you worried you'll be on them for life" my motto is while theres a tablet to make me feel better ill chance it, ill worry more when theres no tablet avalible to me me better

Hi Farr06, welcome to the site. You'll find a lot of us all have the feeling we are going to die and that panic & anxiety are are something more serious. Don't be afraid to take the diazepam, I was on them for months & I can honestly say that they really helped me. I still take the odd 2mg now when I think a panic attack is on the way. CBT will be good to get your thoughts into perspective, make you see things more positively and more importantly, more realistically. I'm sure your GP isn't hiding things from you. We all think its more serious than what it is because the symptoms are so terrifying, especially when personal problems exacerbate the situation. You'll get great comfort from this site & meets lots of people in a similar situation. Its reassuring to know you are not alone with this.

Hi there, I feel for you, as everyone else has said, been there, we all know how you feel, how many times have you read that here, but perhaps you think we are all just saying that & of course you really are going to die, that to is how we think, comfort words, but believe me, we do + we are there for you each and every one of us. I had a major panic some weeks ago, I started to get the ants on my back and down my neck (my first feeling), then I forgot how to drive on a busy roundabout, that made me feel wors, some man shook his fist at me, and all I could do was clutch my chest as the pain was so intense - I was convinced I was having a heart attack, was at the very least going to pass out with dizzyness - and a thought sprang into my head about something I had read on here somewhere - about asking yourself the question "What are you doing to make this worse?" and of course panic was the answer. So I stopped put on my hazzard lights and got out of the car and although I wanted to run, I didn't. Some nice man stopped and asked if i was OK. - I told him I was having a panic attack - and he said he understood, and that he would help me. He pushed my car off the road, and made me breathe slowly and deeply. He was infact a GP. He asked if I had any pills with me for such times, which I did have my propanolol 10mg. Trust me there are times when you do need to have the little pills. Do not be scared of taking them. with love to you, keep us posted, we are all here for you;)

there's a place that I dream of when I sleep, so peaceful, so quite, I call it mother earth.

Hi hun

It is horrible, i felt when i first started suffering like you but then i didnt focus on illness i focussed on going mad and i couldnt shake it off. Your doctor is right that is how you feel when you are having a panic attack.

The diazepam is addictive but if you need it to calm you down it does work but on a need to basis, i still use mine when the days feel to hard to cope with.

We are all here to help you and you are not alone at all.

Love Sal xx
