i have felt a bit breathless for days and just not right. last night i had the breathlessness whilst lying down. i couldnt sleep and my heart was racing. i cant stop coughing and am spitting up alot(sorry)

does this sound familiar, could it be a chest infection.

this morning i just feel sore in my chest and a little breathless, but not doing me chores just a bit out of breath. i feel constantly like i need to cough and am spitting up the flame

Hi Jackie,

Sorry to hear you still feeling rough, hope it passes soon.

Sounds alot like asthma to me but i could be wrong, check it out with the doc who should put you in touch with the nurse, who deals with asthma at your surgery.

Take good care

Jackie

It sounds like a chest infection with the coughing and expectorating phlegm involvement.
If its green or yellow consult your doctor.

It would be normal for your heart to be quicker as your body is working hard to clear the infection.

Hi Jackie,

I get breathless alot, and I get it laying down and with or without palps. I also have asthma but in my case it's just hyperventilation usually.
It may be something more like a chest infection, if you're also coughing stuff up. If you've had a cold or something it may have gone to your chest.

Good luck, thinking of you.

doc said it is not an infection even though it is yellow phleim

actually it was the nurse but she said it was nothing to worry about. i cant believe it is not i stupidly wished it was

anyway she felt i was just anxious and probably hyperventilating

meg i got checked for a clot in the hospital last week after i had a pain in my leg, is that what you thought it might be. the docs did a xray, ecg d dimer and blood gases and could find nothing

what do you all think

could it be a clot they missed

oh im sorry to be so anal about this but it all seems so coincidental to have a pain in me leg and then days later breathless, palps etc and spit

Hi Jackie,

If infection has been ruled out it does sound like it could well be hyperventilation, it can cause lots of awful symptoms. I have coughed when I've hyperventilated badly too.

I was tested for d-dimer last September and it came back positive and high, so they rushed me to hospital with a suspected lung blood clot and never found one and discharged me. I often get scared when I get breathless as I wonder why my d-dimer was high, but the specialist said it can just happen for no obvious reason but me being a scientist wants to know what the reason is to help me fully accept it. I hardly ever think of it now but I know it lurks at the back of my mind if I get breathless.
I am breathless today too and it came out of the blue when I was relaxed at work, yet on Monday I walked up a hill and breathed ok.

I really think seeing a respiratory physiotherapist may help you, they would be able to assess if you are not breathing corrently, it's really helping me. it takes time and alot of practice but it does help.

You could well be breathless days after having pain in your leg because you've been worrying about it and you still are worrying about it and now putting two and two together with the leg pain and thinking you have a clot. Our brains are very clever at tricking us believe me I have been there many times. It seems like you have been fully checked over recently anyway so maybe it's time to try and get some help and see if it is hyperventilation. I don't think the hospital would have let you go home if they really thought you have a clot.

Take care,

Hi Jackie,

Really no need to apologise, I have been there and know how you feel, I still have days like you are sometimes too.

Regarding the shakes it can be a few things, one is low blood sugar and this can be common in anxiety. If it doesn't inprove shortly after you eat something it probably isn't this though. It can also be excess adrenaline in your body due to anxiety and I was told recently that hyperventilation can cause the shakes too as our blood calcium levels go a bit low due to bad breathing.
All of those are possible non serious reasons for it in especially in anxiety sufferers. I have the odd day when I wake up a bit shaky. You can also feel shaky if you have a virus of some sort too of course. I felt a bit trembly last night just because I was tired too.

Hang in there mate,

jackie,

I have just replied to your pm but I also just found this, it's a list of physios in Belfast (I hope that's where you said you are?):

http://www.physiodirectory.com/pages/Belfast.phtm

I expect they are probably all private physios but some of them seem to treat breathing problems. May be worth a look if the gp can't find you a NHS one.

Also here is a link to a NHS one in Belfast, but I'm not sure which health care trust you come under

http://www.sebt.n-i.nhs.uk/index3.html Look under the our services area and then go to the physio page. It says they do breathing physio and it needs a gp referral and it also lists different areas of Belfast where services are provided.

I've been feeling for two days like (and I know this sounds silly, but it's how i feel) my brain isn't getting enough oxygen. Occasionally I feel the need to take a great big gulp of air. Does anyone else get this feeling....or am I just nuts? :D

"This too, shall pass"
