Hi Jenn

I would love to be able to give you the answer where does it come from. Like you i woke up in the middle of the night when i first started suffering and thought what was happening. People had answers but i didnt even know what questions i should be asking. Here for you.

Often , if you've got lots on your mind you do get sudden bursts of adreanline and cortisol that can spark off this sudden panic .

Also when you are anxious, as soon as you wake up it starts off a chain reaction of thoughts that can lead to panic within minutes.

Your anxiety is the human representation of the pictures that you paint using your many vivid colours of revolving and reoccurring thoughts.

Hi Jenn,

Waking up in the middle of the night with a panic can be rather common for a number of us, and having the feeling of anxiety soon after we wake up I think is even more common. We need to try and get going as soon as poss to stop that happening, but it usually seems impossible!

Remember that during the day, we can sometimes hold back panic attacks or anxiety by distraction - that doesn't happen when we are asleep!

Mr Anxiety is very good at keeping time. Having an attack at a certain time is not unusual, and is probably an association thing.

Take Care,

Panic attacks during the night and first thing in the morning are as everyone else says, par for the course when suffering frm anxiety and depression. I've been startled out of my sleep gasping for breath on occasion, and find it pretty difficult some mornings to get going whilst waiting for my system to get on an even keel.

Adrenaline can pump up during periods when we feel we are relaxing (or are unconscious!) and anxiety is unfortunately no respecter of these times. Sometimes the shock of simply waking up is enough to start it off (read Claire Weekes' smashing books on anxiety - she calls it that 'dreaded morning feeling').

Just grin and bear it - it won't always be this bad.
