Hi Mike

I find the best thing for me is to reassure myself that these symptoms are purley anxiety realated and can not do be any harm - even though they feel so awful they do pass and I keep focused on that

I also find bach flower remedies help me as does trying to do something, I usually try and get online or do something that takes my mind of how I am feeling

It does get better!

Hey Mike,

I also find distraction the best thing, either talk to someone or even try and read something.

Every time you avoid your fears they become stronger, every time you face your fears they become weaker.

I interupt the cycle by reminding myself that I have had them before and nothing bad happened then sit down and counter my thoughts in a tea form. I am new at this but I have not had an attack in over a month and normally have them a few times a week so it seems to work and I am hoping it is not a coincidence.

Dont mess up the best things in your life, just because at present you are unsure who you are.

Hi Mike

I would say accept the feelings and dont add to the fear cycle by adding the What Ifs. It is amazing how quickly the panic dissipates once you give it no power.

Your anxiety is the human representation of the pictures that you paint using your many vivid colours of revolving and reoccurring thoughts.

Distraction, moving about, fresh air, rescue remedy and deep breathing ("In through the nose, out through the mouth!" as my mum used to drill into me!) - though not necessarily in that order - are what I do.

I also allow myself some "crutches" which I carry in my handbag to reassure me that I have what I "need", should anything happen - usually a handkerchief, a plastic/paper bag, a book (for distraction) and my "worry stone", which is a flat piece of cool stone that has a groove in it to rub when one feels anxious (just for something to do with the hands basically).

OH ITS OK, IVE HAD THIS BEFORE, IT NEVER HURT ME, IM STILL HERE AND INFACT THESE FEELINGS ARE SO BORING AND UNHELPFULL.
JUST THINK OF ALL THE THINGS YOU HAVE MANAGED TO DO!
I WENT IN A SHOP LAST WEEK AND BOUGHT SOME SWEETS SO IVE PROVED I CAN DO IT, SO I CAN DO IT AGAIN, INFACT I KNOW I CAN DO IT AGAIN, LOOK HERE I AM DOING IT NOW AND IT FEELS SO GOOD I CANT STOP SMILING ABOUT IT AND I WANT TO SHOUT IT OUT TO EVERYONE.

sounds mad but im telling you it works!
HELPFULL THOUGHTS

ive used various techniques to get me thru them over the years..such as; talking to someone, reading signs on roads, schools etc, sucking a mint, drinking water, breathing excersizes, also telling myself im aware of whats happening helps and looking around and realising that probably 1 in 5 people have suffered or are suffering panic attacks at some time in their life.
i know its all easier said than done, but sometimes fighting the attack makes it last longer. you'll be suprised how quick the feelings go if you just go with the flow.

I find the following helps reduce my anxiety:
Cutting out caffeine, high sugar products and alcohol
Bach Rescue Remedy and Mimulus
Lying down and 'switching off' the mind
Reiki healing
Have recently started taking homeopathic medicine - aconite 30c. This seems to be working surprisingly well.

As you can tell, I'm a fan of alternative remedies!

Here are what work best for me to alleviate anxiety:

1) Exercise
2) Talking to a good friend
3) TEA Form from Sam Obitz's book
4) Watching a favorite movie
5) Watching a replay of my favorite football team's games
6) Cooking something intricate
