just a quick post - a week ago i was in hospital from alcohol withdrawl after 9 can of carling last friday - so they give me advice on alcholism even tho i tell them i was using the lager to treat my nerves - today i woke at 6.40am had 3 cigs and a few cups of coffee and put on a nicotine patch didnt smoke all day had no urge to drink any caffeine based drink ate well ate fruit instead of chocolate took my vits and omega 3 and hey presto no panic attacks tho i have felt flat as a board all day long and as far wanting a drink of beer - well it just didnt occur to me - guess that puts an end to the idea i am an alcoholic - i always put it down to cigs starting off a spiral - but me wonders if its the 20 cups of coffee a day i drink when i smoke that makes me as jittery as a dog being taken to the vets to get its balls cut off lol - seems to be lots of things all ravelled in together - dang its so hard to unravel it all

Hi Andrew

Yes its best to cut right down on the coffee as it will make you feel worse re the caffine content.
Stay positive you can get through this.

Hi Andrew

Have you tried Half Caf Coffee it tastes better than Decaf and you still get the "kick" but only 1/2 of it !!

Hi Andrew,

When you suffer from panic attacks you should avoid stuff like coffee and tea, alcohol, nicotine, cola drinks, food additives, 'junk food', slimming pills or appetite suppressants. All of these things are stimulants and therefore make your conditions worse even if it is for a short period of time. Also alcohol is linked to causing insomnia okay you may be able to have a good sleep with when you are drunk but the nights you ain’t that’s when it kicks in. Alcohol is also known to make panic attacks and depression worse even a lot of people use it to treat it isn’t the answer.

Hope this helps.

Hi Andrew

The other guys are right. I cut out alcohol almost completely and have cut my caffine to three cups of tea a day. Not completely better but I seem to have more control. I drink camomile tea or decaff coffee instead, although I am not entirely convinced about the coffee. But I need to have some treat when I'm in town and passing a Starbucks...

Well done you for getting through the day without any of your stimulants - I am very impressed. You should be able to hold your head up high! :)

PS I find very dark chocolate (about 85%) a fabtastic substitute!!

That'd pretty much do it or be part of it anyway along with several other stimulants . Taper down slowly as if you do have this much you will need to withdraw gently.
