Hi all

was at the derm last week re a mole...kind of looks like a fried egg.
anyway he said it wasnt melanoma but i have to get it removed on thursday....he said the only way to be sure about these things is to remove them...what did he mean by that? did he mean the only way to be sure it wasnt cancer or did he mean the only way to make sure it dosent become cancer?

Im terrifed now and have worked myself into an awful state thinking it has spread. its looked the same way for the last two years...is it normal to remove a mole like this anyways?

Hi,

I am certainly no expert in this area but my girlfriend had the same experience recently and she is fine. The doctors are forever cutting moles off my Mum too, I think it is pretty standard procedure and wouldn't worry about it.

Remember, a specialist in this area (someone who knows far more about this than most people on this website) has told you it is not a melanoma, try and focus on that.

I have moles cut off a lot - to make sure they don't become cancerous, not because they are. I definitely get anxious about them too, but remember, they found it and are taking care of it before it becomes anything that will hurt you!

Maybe call your derm's office and ask if somebody can call you back and explain more about this so you aren't worried until Thursday?

I have a very dark but quite small mole on my arm, it's almost black ish but it's been that way since I can remember discovering it, maybe I should get it looked at, I also have a similar one on my leg that's a sort of crescent moon shape, neither are risen or bother me in the slightest.

I also have some completely flat nearly black marks that are small and have had them for about 20 yrs - they start off as pinpricks that are nearly black but absolutely flat and not round and over about 5 yrs they get slightly bigger and more brown as they do so. I have had them all checked by a Dr over the years and they all feel them and say nothing to worry about - the last one I got two years ago on my arm the Dr shone a ultravoilet light on it and said its just a dark freckle. As always they thing to do is watch and measure. Any sudden change or def enlargement then see the Dr.

Hey :hugs:!

I think what he means is "its not cancer but to put your mind at rest and to help prevent cancer we will remove it"

I had a similar thing with a lymph node that was swollen. The surgeon looked at it and said he doesnt think its cancer but was going to remove it for my peace of mind.

Try not to worry - he would have sent you to the hospital the same day if it were anything.

hope you feel better xxx

I have the fried egg type. I have tons of moles and now and then have some removed if they get lumpy or anything.
