Ok, so now I have a cold sore on my lip!! It's the latest in a long line of Herpes adventures for me...great! So, after my anxiety relapse 2 months ago which resulted in me not sleeping or eating for days (I don't even know how many days it was), I ended up with Herpetic Stomatitis. Then a month or so later I got a cold sore on my gum. Now I have a cold sore on my lip. Why can't I shift the Herpes virus? Starting to get pretty worried now. Why isn't this going away?

:bighug1:My GP told me that with repeated attacks what happens is that the virus is not being treated for long enough to completely settle the attack. He carried on treating me with a strong dose of medication for an extra week and I have not had an attack for 6months.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Veronica. I think I'll see how it goes after this cold sore has gone and if I have any further problems I'll go and see my GP. I wasn't treated at all for the two attacks in my mouth. Have you had cold sores inside your mouth or just the ones on the outside? Also, I play oboe and I think that may be making things worse...this cold sore came up during my rehearsal lastnight lol...it made playing a bit painful!

Hmm, I would imagine like any virus or infection that if youre feeling run down youre more likely to get a problem with it.
I know cold sores are a permenant problem, but Im sure there are certain vitamins that will help keep them at bay. I did a little searching and found this.

No cure exists for herpes simplex type I virus, which causes cold sores, but here are some natural (http://www.ehow.com/how_2197_reduce-cold-sores.html#) ways to stimulate blisters to heal quickly.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

The amino acid L-lysine
Antioxidant vitamins
Zinc
Vitamin C
Echinacea and goldenseal
Zinc
Goldenseal
Tea Tree Oils
L-lysine
Echinacea
Vitamin C

1
Take supplements (http://www.ehow.com/how_2197_reduce-cold-sores.html#) that inhibit viral growth at the first sign of an outbreak. Try 500 to 1,000 mg daily of the amino acid L-lysine. Antioxidant vitamins and 50 to 100 mg of zinc per day may also help.
2
Boost your immune system. Take echinacea and goldenseal and get 5,000 mg vitamin C (http://www.ehow.com/how_2197_reduce-cold-sores.html#) daily. Get plenty of rest and reduce stress.
3
Treat the cold sore topically. Dab tea tree oil, a natural antiseptic, at either full or half strength directly on blisters several times a day.
4
Promote healing by avoiding foods (http://www.ehow.com/food/) that contain arginine, another amino acid that suppresses lysine; nuts, dairy products, meat, seeds, oats, peanuts and corn all contain arginine. Limit citrus and other acidic fruits because they can irritate blisters.

Hi, once herpes simplex is in your symptom, its there for life Im afraid. Cold wind, being under the weather, and anxiety all set off an attack. Good last post, the vits will give your immune system a boost. My hubby uses Zovirax, and finds it the best x

I seem to go through phases of having problems with it. I had a year or so when I was getting cold sore blisters on my lips quite regularly then it just stopped for years...the last time I remember having them was about 3 years ago! Now it's kicked off again it seems. The cold has made my lips really chapped and my anxiety is loads better but not completely resolved :(

Vixxy, thanks so much for your post, that's really helpful! I've got some tea tree oil so I'll dab that on until I can get to the chemist. I've been eating loads of citrus fruits so maybe that's irritated my mouth? I've started taking Vit B Complex but it won't have had time to kick in yet. I'll have a look for some of the things on your list :) Thanks :)

Thanks again guys :) xx I have bought some Zovirax and some L-lysine 500mg tablets. Fingers crossed. I drink a lemon drink which has 75% RDA of Vit C in it so that should help too.

Hi Moonlight

The Dr treated mine with a course of Zovirax tablets. I hope it gets sorted out soon.
