hi im new my name is lynn im 51 and used to be a community care worker until july when i had my first panic attack. i didnt know what was happening to me and to be honest they have completely taken over my life.ive lost all my confidence and am desperate to get my life back. i was stuck in traffic when the first one occurred and now have a fear of traffic jams. i worry what people think of me because my fear seems so irrational. ive had counselling but to be honest i think that made me worse. i am wondering now if hypnosis would be worth a try. does anyone have any suggestions. summers coming and i know i wont be able go on holiday with my family unless i can get rid of my fear.

Hi Lynn,

Welcome aboard and lovely to see you here.

Start with the basics - read this post ...

First Steps to overcoming Panic and Anxiety (http://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/showthread.php?t=942)

I too have a fear of traffic jams and am currently undergoing CBT treatment for it. Let me know if you want to hear more about it.

I have done Hypnotherapy too - How Hypnotherapy can help with Panic Attacks, Anxiety, Phobias and OCD. (http://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/NMPcms.php?nmppage=hypnotherapy)

Hope we can be of some help anyway.

Hi Lynn
l have always been seen as as someone who could always be dependable in a crisis, back last year I had what I thought was a period of 'fainting' and now realise this was the start of my panic attacks.
The day after I went to my Gp for help for the first time, I had the worse panic attack ever whilst driving, I even called for an ambulance!
2 weeks down the line I have progressed from just siting in the car, to going for a drive around the block with someone sitting with me, to driving very local on my own with backup at the end of the phone.
Don't give up on the driving, keep on trying
good luck
Karen

thank you so much for your support. i was unaware there was such a thing as panic disorder. i am so frustrated because of the restrictions it has put on my once very active life. i had a holiday to Turkey booked last October and the day of departure i couldnt go.Not only does this disorder affect the person but also the persons family. A fear of having a panic attack seems to also trigger off another. Its a vicious circle. I am determined i will beat this for the sake of my family. Thanks again. LYNN

Hi Lynn,

Welcome to the forum I’m sure you will find help here with understanding your condition. I have tried hypnotherapy before and I found it worked for me but it doesn’t work for everyone. I think if you can take in suggestions and process them in your head you have a good chance of going under hypnosis. Try searching the national association of hypnotists in Google uk only. Once it brings up the website you should be able to find one in your area who is registered.

I really hope this helps and if you any question just let me know.

Hi Lynn

Sorry it has being so hard for you but i do understand how i feel. Panic attacks out of the blue for no reason knock us of our feet and i know my first attack did. We have to start answering questions we never knew existed which is hard. Pleased you have come on the site and we will all help you however we can. Knowing you are not alone is a great help, well it was for me, because my life became so isolated as noone around me had a clue what i was talking about.

Love Sal xx

Hi Lin

A very warm welcome to you! You will find loads of support and fantastic people (btw you are the same age as me!).

It seems to me that CBT is the way forwards and there are a variety of ways of getting it from phone CBT, low cost, NHS (if you're lucky), private (if you're rich!) or self help books...

I hope you find the support you need here.

Good luck xxxx
