Hello again, and a massive thankyou to all of you who have taken the time and trouble to reply to my messages and for all the words of encouragement.
I am 39 (40 in Aug), and work in the collectables auction business. i live in the Staffordshire area. My biggest love are my dogs (lurcher rescues) whom without i would totally crack up.
I have suffered with depression, social problems etc for many years (10+) and have been on medication most of that time, only coming off mid last year as a personal choice, this however opened a whole new can of worms with new found anxiety !
One of my biggest problems is escapism and fantasy life in my mind, usually involving living on a Scottish island away from all the stresses, this in turn causes anxiety because i cannot do anything about it due to being hard up most of the time !
I hate being a "loner" much of the time and desparately want to socialise but find it so difficult, i never used to be like this though.
I hope talking to like minded people on here will help.
Best Wishes.
Andy

andy many of us on this site fear things sooo badly that it stops us from doing the things we love. we are all comin from different angles but wanting to go to the same place. a place where irrational fear is gone

i hope you can get there as i hope all of us do

Hi Andy

Totally appreciate how you feel. Pleased your love in dogs keeps you going. Coming off medication after that time on it will have opened a can of worms but a can that i am sure you are well prepared to handle with our help. I admire you for coming of your meds and if i can help in any way i will,

Love Sal xx

Andy,

Getting into any kind of social group can be hard.

You'll probably make 'virtual friends' here, but maybe you could give Social Anxiety UK a go too http://www.social-anxiety.org.uk/

It's a very helpful site and there are meet-ups all round the country. I see there is one in Manchester this saturday. Is it worth a go?

Members of this site meet up occasionally too, and I suggest you post on the Meet Ups and Get Togethers thread. We have been to Alton Towers in past years.

Take Care,

Ray
