My mum's been getting night sweats and hot flushes and her periods are all over the place she says. But I am scared she has lymphoma as the doctor said the glands in her neck were swollen a couple of weeks ago (they thought she had a virus) and I don't think anyone's checked whether that is still the case, so I'm scared it's lymphoma, she's had a neurological exam and an ECG and it was all OK but I'm really concerned. She says the doctor knows her symptoms and isn't concerned but I am really very worried.

hey daisy... what age is your mom? Mine had night sweats, hot flushes etc. in her late 40s, because of menopause. Actually, the 3 symptoms are the most common for menopause:
Common Symptoms
1. Hot Flashes (http://www.34-menopause-symptoms.com/#hotflashes)
2. Night Sweats (http://www.34-menopause-symptoms.com/#nightsweats)
3. Irregular Periods [...] (http://www.34-menopause-symptoms.com/#irregularperiods)

Swollen glands from infections can take up to several months to "deflate". Anyway, if the doctors didn't think anything about them, there is no need to worry. Lymphoma glands tend to feel very different from normal-non-cancerous swollen ones (they are firm, attached to the underlying tissues etc.). So if there was any cause for concern a doctor would of worried about it.

She's 45 - and she's been telling me that she thinks she's menopausal so she probably is, she says she might go and ask for a blood test to see. She does fit the symptoms of it I think.

Menopausal symptoms affect about 70% of women approaching menopause. Typical menopause symptoms, such as hot flashes or night sweats, are caused by changing hormonal levels in the female reproductive system. Almost all women notice early symptoms while still having periods. This stage of gradually falling and fluctuating hormone levels is called perimenopause, which often begins in the early 40s.

It fits, doesn't it? :). I dont know how your mom is but mine was very weird imo. If I were here I would of flipped out and probably entered a new panic-period. She would be sweating in the cold, got hot flashes during winter, horrible perspiration bouts. And she took it all with a smile, like nothing was happening. I guess there's only room for one nutjob in the family :D

My mum had this at 42, she got tested and she was pre-menopausal. they can happen at any time in your 40s for most people, my mums were really bad, she even had swollen face where her body was reacting to the change, sounds exactly like menopause hunny. try not to worry x

Even if your mum gets blood tests, it may well not show definitely that she is on the change but believe me the peri-menopause - the time before you enter menopause - can be a weird and wonderful era with loads of physical symptoms which can lead you to think that you have something terribly wrong with you!!!!!

Try not to worry - if she speaks with the doctor, they can get a plan of action together to deal with these symptoms.
