Hi Hun

Sorry to hear you have been going through a bad time with panic attacks. These attacks have a surprising way of coming along just when you feel calm again. I think it can depend on what your feeling anxious about in the first place as to whether it will carry itself on or not. Ie is work going okay at the moment for you?
As you say if your were already getting nervous about going out for the meal it could be that the body is only now feeling that it was'nt so bad after all. You did achieve getting to the meal though that is very positive & you know you should be feeling great about that.

Take Care

hey pug, sorry you are feelin scared by the swallowin symptom.it is soooo common .It is more a symptom than a panic attack, but then the fear of choking can set off a panic!I HAVE USED OLBAS OIL PASTILLES!!!I know it sounds daft, but it worked,as they are strong menthol and i could feel that the breath was going into my lungs and there was no blockage or any thing.i keep them in my bag!Do your deep breathin too, read 1st steps on main forum to remind you that this is just a symptom and it will go.love Mary-Rose.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Pug, When i first started reading up on panic attacks I was under the impression that they only last mins/hours, but I had some symptoms for days/weeks/permanently. I think anyone who suffers from panic attacks ends up with anxiety & it sounds like you have some classic signs of anxiety so the GP did right giving you the tablets. See how you go, but always remember that its only anxiety Pug (which is a horrible thing for us & we see it as a real serious disease), but it won't harm us or kill us, just scares the cr*p out of us!

Take care & hope the tablets kick in soon.

Les, xx

Hi Pug,

I agree. There's no set time for panic attacks. Sometimes they can be over quite quickly and sometimes go on for ages.
I also think that you can be in a state of "near panic" where you get the symptoms but don't always get a full blown attack all the time.
I can relate to the throat one. I used to get a sensation of tightening around my throat and thinking it would close up. I hated it. However, It's not possible for the the throat to close up in this way and so you will always be able to breathe.
Relaxation of mind and body at every opportunity is a good thing. Not easily achieved I know. It's good to set yourself definite times where you try to relax though. I used to listen to a relaxation cd before bed each night when I was bad.

All the best,
Trev :D

Hi hun

Pleased you have posted and sorry you are feeling so bad at the moment.

Dont we all wish it was for a matter of time then we could walk away and go back to how we were. But there is no time limit and that is the hardest part not knowing when we are going to come through this and look back on it as a hard learning curve but made us realise we are stronger than we ever thought. It does take time and we will help you all we can. There are no stipulations at all and that is hard to grasp but we are here for you and totally understand how you feel.

In time it gets easier, through the simply understanding of what has happened to us.

Love Sal xx
