Opinions on citalopram

Hi, I have been given citalopram 40mg to try for general anxiety an panic attacks, i was just wondering how this has worked for other people and have they had any bad side effects. Ive been told 40mg is quite a high dose for just starting, im wondering should i maybe start on a lower dose.
Any comments will be appreciated
