hey guys,

its been a while since i have last posted, but i just have to talk about something that has been bothering me lately. as of now, i belive that i have GAD although i have not seen anyone about it. this is mostly because my parents persist to think that this is just a "phase" and will pass in time. i want to belive them, but i cant bring myself to think that the stuff that i have been going through the last few is just a phase.

why i am posting is because of my fear of becoming scitsophrenic at some point in the near future. unlike most of the people on this site who are scared of becomeing scitsophrenic, i actuly fall in the age range for when it usaly develops in men.

i have read many posts on this site regurding scitsophrenia and most of them seem to lead people to belive that just because they are aware of their anxiety makes them somehow imune to the disorder. an example of this is "you know whats happenig to you so you cant be going crazy."

i have researched scitsophrenia more fully and found that this is simply not true. i have read posts from actual scitsophrenics saying that there where tell-tale signs that they were developing the disorder but they just dident realize it at the time.

after reading things like this i just feel like i should buy a stright jacket and just check myself in.

sorry for this being so long.

Brad.

Hi Bradley

First of all, I know the fear that you are having. I have it also. My grandmother was schizophrenic, and sometimes I am just convinced I inherited it from her. However, logically, I know that is not the case. One rule that I try to stick to is I compare my symptoms with other people here, if they are consistant with anxiety I try to calm myself down. If you have some sort of symptom that you believe points to schizophrenia, and no one on this site has ever had it, maybe you should go see someone. But, I find that we all have so many of the same symptoms. Also, people do not just buy themselves a straight jacket! No one willingly puts one on, and checks themselves into the looney bin! If you have those kinds of thoughts, that is 100% anxiety. What proof do you have to believe you are schizophrenic?

Yes of course there are tell tale signs but they don't match GAD's.

What signs do you think you are seeing in yourself ?

Your anxiety is the human representation of the pictures that you paint using your many vivid colours of revolving and reoccurring thoughts.

Hi Brad
Sorry to hear how you are feeling,
I was convinced a few weeks ago that I was going insanse, the site members assured me otherwise and I am still here in (reasonably!!) sane mine,
I too am convinced these are anxiety symtpoms, I like you was in google looking to diagose myself with a severe mental illness and think this can make you feel worse, have you spoke to you doctor about these feelings?
Take Care

thank you all for posting. like i said, i have not seen any professional help, so i wouldent know weather i have GAD or scitsophrenia. the reason i posted is because i am starting to let the fear of developing scitsophrenia control my life. i just want to stop all of it.

So probably all your googling is simply fuelling your fears . Power of suggestion is strong

Go and see a doctor and discuss it so you know the truth or do your utmost to reassure yourself but above all stop doing internet searches.
