has anyone actually every properly got over panic attacks or is it something that we have to live with and deal with? I wondered also if anyone else had the same symptons as me - I have a sense of unreality, and just start to shake all over, it is mortifying. I have lost my job and am meant to go for an interview tomorrow - but i just cant i know i will have another attack...

Hi Wendy,
I did read some of the personal stories, but stopped as they all seemed to still be suffering, perhaps i will read on.
I really don't think i can manage the interview tomorrow, I am still really gittery I just know that i will have an attack - and when i know it always happens.

Have you tired Rescue Remedy? This may help you with the interview, I get just like you do and I have found this can help in these situations

You will get over this, lots of people do, we have to assure ourselves we can beat this! x

Hi Kaka,

sorry to hear you feeling so bad. I would say that if you start to tell your self 'oh no can't go to the interview I'll panic' then you will hun. you need to turn the negative thoughts into positive ie 'what an achievement when I get throught this interview tomorrow'. I agree with wendy about the rescue remedy provided your not on any meds for your anxiety already, it's not to expensive and you can get it from boots. My sis uses it for her driving and swears by it :).

As for the unreality (aka depersonalization/derealization) and the shaking just more symptoms of anxiety unfortunatly. The dp/dr is my main symptom so can totally relate to how horrible that makes you feel. you will get better at managing your anxiety and I'm sure you will be great at your intverview tomorrow, I really hope you go, if even it's just to prove to yourself you can and anxiety wont beat you.

Let us know how you get on and GOOD LUCK :)

Take Carexx

Kaka,

I really hope you are able to take the advice here and be positive and go for the interview tomorrow. Jammiebasket uttered some wise words there.

I know its hard to turn around, but I know from personal experience that it is possible to overcome the hurdles for a big occassion.

Hi Kaka

I know how hard this is and wish you the best of luck tomorrow. You can do it hun, its a mind over matter issue that seems to take control but go through that then let it run its course. Harder said than done i know but go in thinking of something you really like and dont distract from that. If nothing else look at it as a confidence build that you deserve.

Thinking of you and look forward to hearing how it went.

Love Sal xx

thanks for all your replies - and thanks for the links - it was so good to read positive stories.
Sorry everyone - didn't go for interview, even though i had the job anyway as he told me before, he just wanted to introduce me to everyone and do some formalities. I just couldn't do it. I used to be so outgoing - i can't believe myself sometimes. My son was going to come with me too, but because i had a panic attack infront of some friends at the weekend, which has never happened before, i thought that having my son there still wouldn't help and i could have one infront of him.
Now I feel silly[:I] I do manage to keep down one job i have as it doesn't involve meeting anyone ever - but i need more work and need to get over this....today i feel a lot less anxious, i was so anxious about the interview. Thanx everyone for your kind words - much appreciated

thanx for the linx. It was helpful to read about depersonalisation. I had this about a year and a half ago for weeks. I was really desperate and didn't know what was happening to me. i was in a stressful job, and also just found out an old boyfriend had been killed. I felt so suicidal and the doctor didn't help even though i had never experienced anything like it before. This is the first time i have read that depersonalisation can last for more than just a moment....
