something else I experience, severe nightime panic where i wake up gasping for breath and feeling severely out of it --scared and rapid pounding heart--also sometimes I feel paralyzed in my sleep???? It's like my eyes are open and awake but i cannot move -it takes all my strength to get one toe or hand to move and once I do that-it's like the paralization goes away completely. it seems to happen more on my back than anything. Both of these occurrences have gone on for years --not all the time but they seem to happen atleast 3-5 x a month. It's very weird. I read that these paralyzing deals are called Sleep Paralysis. Could this be anxiety related? I've become used to it actually but it's incredibly annoying and it exhausts me. These episodes make me feel as if I have a 20k marathon.

Anyone experiences are helpful!

Thanks

I think i've had something similar.A few times in the last few months i've woken up after a bad dream or nightmare (which i have more often than pleasant dreams!) and during the first minute or so have felt completely unable to move - like i've got cramp in the whole of my upper body.Does this sound similar?

Hi Scarlet!
Ive had the feeling of being paralized around 5/6 times now since November time. I wake up but cant move for abour 10 seconds (it seems longer) its a really scary feeling. I cant even speak or shout for help, all i can do is open and close my eyes.

HEY thanks for the responses. Its good to know a lot of people have had this. It started for me about 6-7 yrs ago and it does seem to be worse when I am under more stress! My ? is: WHEN ARE WE NOT UNDER STRESS?????:D

Anywhoo, it's very weird but I think the most troubling is sometimes when I wake up panicked (not the paralyzing deal) I will be FREAKING out and come to so to speak after I have knocked something off my end table or something like that! It's like I am in auto-panic mode even in sleep.

I guess I will just not sleep on my back that seems to make it worse!

ARG!

i have been getting these badley latley, waking up and my heart racing, then of ourse i start to get the chest pain, around the heart area and then i freak out.

I have some weird things go on actually when i go to sleep, so i wouldnt worry too much love, although its hard not to isnt it.
Only last night i was trying to sleep and my heart kept kinda like pausing and i dont know where i was for a few seconds , it freaks me out.. but i have a feeling its to do with the fact our bodies are trying to shut down after a fightful day and ,and up comes the panic to try again... bas**d thing even trys it when we are sleeping too... its awlful all of it.

I've have had sleep paralysis for about two years now, and it is a dreaded experience. It either happens early in the morning or late at night when I'm falling asleep. The scary thing about it is when I actually "wake up" in the middle of a dream like something suddenly pounces on my chest, and I feel this weird pressure in my bones. I sometimes hear something growling or talking in Latin, which is terrifying. After my anxiety attack, the feeling of the attack felt familiar, but I didn't know why. I think it is the adrenaline shooting through you when you realize you can't move. The worst time to have SP is when you have a blanket over your face or are laying face-down and can't breathe. Sometimes I lay on my bed for what seems like twenty minutes and wish I could atleast fight the "entity" that I feel and sense. I always freak out when I wake up and frantically search for my tv remote to check the room. Then I usually go on rage to find it and kill it lol. This is an interesting topic for me so that's why I'm rambling. It sounds like a good topic for my next Heavy Metal themed song.

well I just found this thread because I just woke up from another horrendous episode of sleep paralysis, except now they aren't as horrendous as I've gotten so completely used to them I know how to deal with them when I'm having them. And I have all the classic symptoms - one time it was so bad (and this was when I woke up from another night of binge drinking - in my case, alcohol or napping causes s/p) that i KNOW i was awake but this seemed dream-like and i couldn't move and my eyes opened to find my room all disorted (really trippy) and i remember feeling drunk still, kind of happy yet confused and i doubt i really did this or if i just saw myself doing this since i couldn't move, i saw myself pick up my cell and snap it open to which this forboding music came out of it, like the sound my cell typically makes when its out of power but this sounded creepy and the numbers and letters started falling out of my phone! now i start to get anxious and lay there still unable to move yet i have a view of myself from above and all of a sudden this demon like thing is on me pinning me down and my chest hurts and i can't scream or anything and i know its the end and i wake up. trippy...the scary thing is sometimes i have these and i shake violently to wake myself up. or i start shaking violently (i think, i have no idea if i just think im shaking violently) and start to like feel myself slither along the floor, fly around the room...i know it sounds crazy and well it is. I just hope I'm not having seizures. Whenever i have a panic attack i freak out and think oh no I'm having a seizure...I'm not right...:scared15:
