I'm a 32 year old mother of 3 and have suffered (and I mean suffered!) from anxiety on and off for the last 12 years and unfortunately it has reared it's ugly head again after a break of several years. However that's not to say that I don't get the odd 'panic' even when i'm "well".

I am something of a hypochondriac (there I actually said it!) and i'm sure that I have experienced virtually every symptom of anxiety there is which convinces me more that I am seriously ill.

Well here's the ironic part- My dad is a leading expert on anxiety, phobias and ocd and has even received a cbe and professorship in recognition of his work. So I can't even plead ignorance as regards to my symptoms eg numbness, irregular heartbeat, derealisation (some of my old favourites!), I know why they happen and yet nothing helps or reassures me more than talking to or listening to someone going throught the same.
So here I am!!

Hi shiv, well done to your Dad on the CBE! It's hard to take advice from someone who is so close to us. We expect them to know everything, & obviously your Dad knows more than most, but like you say, its better & more reassuring to talk to people going through the same thing. Welcome to the site & hope you meet lots of great people who will share their advice & reassurance with you that you are not alone in all this.

Good luck.

Hi Shiv

welcome to the forum,

Sometimes even when you know you have nothing to be scared of and feel anxious about, no matter how much you tell yourself that, you cant help but worry, sometimes being rational doesnt come into it,

I hope you find some useful tips here, and its of some comfort to you,

and a big well done to your Dad,

Hi Shiv

A warm welcome aboard and lovely to see you here.

I expect you don't want to say who dad is but I am pleased that you have him as some support as well.

Perhaps one day we can get dad to pop in chat and give us all some advice.

Hope you get loads of support here and help along the way.

Nicola
