Hi,

I found a lump in my breast, went to GP, and as I have had a benign lump before (confirmed by needle biopsy), and private health care, he referred me to a consultant.

I saw the consultant, he had a feel, said was a bit lumpy but didn't think anything to worry about, but would scan the area. Had the scan, and the woman doing it asked me if I had had any trauma to breast, as the tissue shows these sort of changes.

I told her I had been prodding and poking the area a lot, but she meant a substantial knock. She then proceeded to take a couple of biopsys from area,

Now I am really scared as to why my breast showed these changes, and I have not had any trauma to breast, could it be something sinister.

Has anyone any ideas or experience as to what could be going on.

Thank you

I suppose this could depend on how much you've been prodding yourself, as if you really have been doing it a lot, that could add up to the same effects as a "substantial knock"?

Hi

I am having breast issues too at the mo and have been to a see a specialist many times for various different lumps - all benign so far thank goodness

I agree that poking and proding may cause what she sees - when I had my breast checks with consultant he expalined how sensitive the breasts are and how you can bruise them so easily inside.

Just a thought - when you had your previous lump was it in the same breast? As he also said a biopsy can leave behind scar tissue which I should imagine is what the lady was referring too when she asked about an injury to the breast.

Hi mogwog,

Thanks for reply, I had a needle core biopsy from same breast 6 months ago, but in a slightly different area, about 2-3 inches away.

Also had mammogram then, and that lump turned out to be a fibroadenoma.

*m petrified about this as they are not sure what it is as have had no trauma to this area.

Hi chick

I know its a worry time breast lumps really suck!!

The fact that she asked if you had, had an injury points towards scar tissue or there is something called fat nerocis which can be caused by a previous biopsy - I bet thats what it is, . From what i've read they normally biopsy these anyway.

When do you get results?xxxxxxx

I get the results on Thursday, I am in complete meltdown.

Mogwog, you seem to be very knowledgeable on this subject. Thanks for your advice.

I was involved in a very serious car accident 8 yrs ago and got terible injuries from seatbelt to my right breast - I had a hugely deformed breast that took 9 months to return to normal. The compression injury caused massive fat necrosis - I had a large indentation across my breast from where the seatbelt had been and huge lumps either side of the indentation not to mention the actual black bruising it was horrible to see.

Once my breast had returned to visually normalish ( still had an indentation) I had ultrasound and they said they could see the scarring quite clearly.

A couple of months ago I had first ever mammo and ultrasound and thankfully all was fine but the consultant said the mammo showed evidence of the trauma of accident. The consultant said any trauma be it like my accident damage or operation or biopsy leaves its mark on mammo.

I wonder how hard you have been prodding and poking - did you cause yourself any pain or bruising as this would be classed as trauma - most people would not realise that with health anxiety what we class as a bit of prodding to them would be trauma!
