Hello,

For the past 6 months, I have suffered with frequent urination (8-10 times per day).

After I have been the feeling comes back 10 minutes later, causung uncomfort and restless nights.

I have had ultrasound scans and camera in the bladder, all results normal.

During the past 6 months, It has vanished twice for the duration of approximately 7-10 days and being honest, it was properly because of those two times I worried about something else etc.

Last night as I was in the bath and I thought about the problem how it has improved again and as if by magic, it is back, feels like I need to urinate all of the time again.

It proves to me how powerful anxiety is and how it can easily control me!

What is getting me down is at night time, trying to get to sleep with constant feeling of going to the toilet.

Does anybody else suffer from this frequent urination problem from anxiety or does anybody know of any advice for me?

I think it is most definitely due to anxiety. I find that when I am paticularly worried I am never off the toilet. When your book arrives (Its Not All in Your Head) you will see that this is listed as one of the symptoms.

Easier said then done but try not to worry. Its crazy isn't it that when something new crops up to worry about your past worries seem to disappear.

I don't think that is too frequent. I think I go far more than that but then I do drink a lot of water in the day.

Have you ever been tested for diabetes as well ?

Hi,

For example last week (was worrying about my breathing) and the feeling disappeared and I was drinking quite a bit and only going toilet 3-4 times a day with no feeling in between.

Today, I go the toilet and in the next 10 minutes I feel the need to go again so I'm trying to not go until approx a couple of hours in between.

They did test me for diabetes, which was negative.
Also did a Cystoscopy and ultra sound of bladder and kidneys.

As I'm typing this I'm feeling pretty low.

This may make you feel better?

I drink a lot of water but I urinate maybe 10-20 times a day! At least 10 times!

I hate it but water makes me feel better!

p.S. Anxiety and GAD makes you unrinate more often.

And it comes on FAST! I need a toilet fast... so I think its normal but frustrating at times.

Tony,

It seems to me like you have had plenty of tests to rule out medical problems so I would be somewhat relieved if I were you. If it has gone away in the past when you focused on something else I would say it could be anxiety. It can be a mighty strong thing. Think of how strong panic attacks can be. The only thing I do know is cranberry juice is good for the bladder but I don't think it will help as I think you are o.k.

Hi,

I actually tried not drinking at all yesterday and still needed the toilet every hour or so.

I'm not sure if the amatriptiline is making it worse.
It is suppose to relax your bladder and over the last two days I have realy felt uncomfatable down there as if it's stopping me from urinating (or is it my anxiety?).

Not sure how long I can take it until I crack up.

Hi Tony

Since suffering with anxiety, i need to go to the toilet all the time.

Even when iv just been and havent had a drink i will need to go again.

Like u i only have to think about it, and then i will need to go again.

Its very hard but we have to try not to focus on it.

love mandie x

Hi, I used to wee loads, as soon as I came in from the loo I'd have to go back again, and mostly it was a very small amount. Nurse at GP surgery scared me with infections, bladder disorders etc, and as soon as I cut out caffeine completely, including tea, it went back to normal. Cut out caffeine, I'm sure you will see a difference, take care mate

Hi,

I have given my 5th urine sample and guess what, yes the results were normal and my full blood count.

Doctor thinks it's most prob anxiety again, told me to keep on taking amitriptyline for another month then go back and see him.

Feel like giving up at times!

Hi,
I have tried stopping the coffee but I still feel the need to go to the toilet still.

This symtom is not doing my head any good at all if i'm honest as I don't know if I'm poorly or it's anxiety?

How do we all tell if we are poorly or not?

Bladder problems have been a constant feature of my anxiety and also a constant fear ever since I had the mother of all infections early last year. It's scary and makes you feel lousy all the time - and above all it's hard to relax with it. The feelings went on long after the infections and I had loads of occasions where it felt like I had an infection and the tests came back clear.

I'm convinced there's a big link between anxiety and suspected bladder infections (hmmm, I feel a poll coming on...)

Keep on drinking water - if there is anything there, the water will flush it through. Look at regular urination positively - at least everything's working!

Lucy, what is that book you mentioned? It sounds like something I ought to read!

Lucy,

Hi, thankyou for your message.

The book, which i'm reading is called 'It's Not All In Your Head', which was recommened here on this forum and so far the book has been spot on.

Regarding frequent urination, I'm looking for a link to anxiety, if I could find this information then it might make me feel better.

It is hard to relax, especially at night when trying to sleep.

Hi,

Hope you all had a good easter (the best we can with anxiety).

The doctor has signed me off seeing the specialist, he was nice about it and talked to me why. He said the specialist has not found anything seriously wrong.

The doctor then said that he thinks it's anxiety based, which is causing me to need the toilet more frequently.

Over easter I was getting better, going the toilet 3-4 per day then all of a sudden, today I feel worse but I do thing about it when I feel the sudden urge.

I'm worried that I'm no longer under a specialist, which I was ok about at first but the more I think about it, I'm worried that I might have something wrong and nobody taking me serious.

Has anybody else been signed off seeing a specialist and got worried?

Hi Tony

I have sufferent with frequency for about a year now! It all started after a really bad kidney infection and I cannot seam to control it! I can sometimes go 15 times aday and constantly up on anight. I also wake up about 5 times anight needing to go.
Its horrible and I struggle at work too as i have to go to alot of meetings and have to go out to use the loo!
I feel like a always need to go even after I have just been and it never gets better!!:(
I have also had a cystoscopy which was normal and urine test which was normal.
My doctor hasnt suggested is it all down to me been anxious and thinks that I have an overactive bladder! He said if It waks me up on a night then it cannot be down to anxiety but must be an overactive bladder! He said that the constant need to urinate is also down to nerve fibres been agitated in my last infection!!
As for treatments my doctor hasnt come up with anything yet and seams pretty clueless!
I dont know how much longer I can go on like this and hold down my job on about 3 hours sleep a night!
I know how you feel Tony its horrible but very very common!!!

Take care and try to stay positive. It could be alot worse!
Kate
