Hi folks, quite nervous about being here! Nervous becuase I'm worried that writing about my problems might make them worse!

I've had anxiety and OCD since I was 10. It died down after about 6 years but a tragic event last year brought them back with a venegance!

My main pre-occupation right now is that I will go absoloutely mad and lose all grip of reality. I'm worried that because I spend each day thinking like this my brain will just become completely corrupted and me a mad man. I'm worried I'll develop schizophrenia or some other sinister mental disorder and will never be able to recover.

It just seems like a downward spiral and I'm 'in too deep' as it were.

I feel so overwhelmed. I also have the dispersonalization / disrealization right now which isn't helping matters. My mind feels so foggy that it's difficult to think clearly... rationalize etc. Thoughts seems to be jumbled and unorganized... hard to rationalize the nonesense thoughts.

I'm also worried that I might start hallucinating during the day. I'm having trouble sleeping and always seem to reach the verge of sleep and stay there. It's at this stage that I start dreaming scenarios yet am still awake. I'm sure this is perfectly normal but it freaks the hell out of me. For example, the other day, whilst on the verge of sleep, I got it into my head that aliens were attacking me. I had a panic attack... thought I was going mad, but eventually relaxed and returned to normal.

However, I'm just worried that this will feed into my waking hours. I'm worried that If I keep reaching this weird 'verge of sleep' state of mind that I'll actually make it worse... encourage it. Hard to explain. :(

I'm also very gullible! I started reading a website that claimed that evil aliens were ruling the Earth. It conflicted with my belief systems.

I started to panic. It felt like I couldn't handle knowing this information, and merely knowing it would send me mad.

Please help me guys! Am I merely an anxiety sufferer who can and will get better? Or am I in too deep? Am I on a downward spiral mentally?

I'm so scared guys! I look at normal people and envy them so much.

Thanks for reading,

- Luke

Doc couldn't see any sinister mental problems. Was quite happy that I indeed have anxiety. Advised a pyschologist and a need to get out more lol.

Hi Luke

Firstly welcome to the forum, you will get lots of support here.

I understand what you are saying and we do lose ourselves in this illness and irrational thoughts can take over, so it isnt hard for me to see where you are coming from.

Beliefs we always had suddenly are not as strong as they were before and we are left in a fragile state where anything can affect our thinking and we torure ourselves trying to make sense of it. Here for you like we all are.

Love Sal xx

believe me, you are not alone. ive suffered horrifc thoughts and fears for over a year. ive found that i have the ability to talk myself into anything happening! a few years back i had a one off scenario..some madman (i forget his name lol) wrote down that the world would end on such and such a date. for 2 nights before that day i watched the sky and i waited. i took my kids to bed with me (so we could die together) and i was scared witless. obviously that day came and went, but i will never forget that fear. i have no idea as to what caused and it, nor how it went.
ive had the fear of choking..heartattacks and im now mildly convinced i have cancer. irrational maybe, but as you know..its real to us.
i am not 100% sure what causes such reactions..all i know is that in my case its stress and the ability to deal with life head on.
i can now only sleep with the radio on, so i can focus on something and avoid these thoughts.
im with you buddy..you need to compare notes..im here. your post has helped me greatly because all day ive been convinced that its just me.
