Hi folks,

I have been having a rubbish week. I walked out of my workplace without telling a soul on Monday after having a panic attack and a desperate need to be at home. I am already taking slow release propranolol for anxiety related palpitations. I have been suffering with left-sided chest pain and neck pain and have cinvinced myself that I now have heart problems. I went to see my gp today...who is lovely and knows my problems. he prescribed 20mg fluxotine for depression as well as continuing with the propranolol. My main worry is the chest and neck pain. I know it is likely to be anxiety related but how can i be sure? my blood pressure is ok. can anyone reassure me about the pains? thanks in advance. this is a great site for anxiety-ridden people like me :) x

Hi Mrs F, Ive had panic and anxiety for ten years. I started experienceing the pains you describe about 6 months ago, which was petrifying, as I thought I had had all the symptoms/unusal pains etc. I was fortunate enough to speak to a specialist in anxiety very recently...let me assure you, it is anxiety.

The chest pain is common, the neck pain is refered pain, and also muscular tension. Your BP is ok, which tells us your heart is ok. I use a hot water bottle on the area of pain, and it is fantastic. Remember, you saw your gp today, if there was anything seriously wrong, youd be in hospital right now. Please try to relax, pamper yourself, play a long forgotten cd, enjoy a bath, read a book...distraction in this instance should not be underrated honey xxxx
