I have recently being obcessing that my moles are cancerous, I have had them checked by my doctor and one who specialses in skin problems and they say they look ok!! But I have a few that look like a brown flatish mole but with like a light brown edge around it, like a mole on top of a freckle almost!! Does anybody else have this??

Check out seborrheic kerratosis..They look just like moles and are harmless also can mimic melanoma.I had one of these on my face ,made me crazy for about year till it fell off..I think if your doctor saw it,then its probably fine.Good luck.Michael

If you want to get over health anxiety, you need to start ensuring that you check your own thoughts for this kind of thing. The bolded text in the quote above is the logical end of the problem. The reason you are worried is because you are obsessing, not because there is objectively anything wrong.

I have a few new moles come up and they really freak me out - ive had them checked and doc said they was fine so ive tried my best to put them at back of my mind, but i know how you feel. if doc has said they are fine then they really are fine xx

I had a melanoma a couple of years back, what happened is I had a new mole appear on the back of my leg about 5mm across it just appeared out of no where really and was quite dark. Melanoma can be any number of coulours but its especially careful to look out for darker moles. There are the ABCD's to follow as well.

Is it Asymmetric
is the border irregular
Color, is it dark or has multiple colours
Diameter is it greater than 5mm
and most importantly is it changing.

Thats the factual stuff, even if you match some of these chances are its nothing. The most important thing is you got it checked an the doctors say its fine they no what there looking for especially the skin specialists.

When I had mine I was going for checks anyway, I mentioned it casually to my dermatologist thinking it was nothing really, I mean people get new moles all the time but she took one look and said we will take that off today. I have had other moles off and they make you wait a month or two but this there was no messing about so it shows they know what they are doing. SO if your doctor had any doubts it would be biopsied by now.

I think its highly unlikley you have got that. Again like I said before its best to get these things checked out but 99 things out of a 100 are nothing to worry about. How many moles do you have? Can you get your doctor to send you for a fully body check at the dermatologists. This means your skin is fully checked and you can settle down a bit. If you have quite a few they can also do photo's for you.

I know what you mean about panicing over this, when I was diaganosed with Melanoma I thought every single one of my moles was a problem. What I did was get the photo's and got into a a pattern of checking them for change once a month, never check them more than that. Like I said its very unlikley you will have a problem so try not to worry.

Hi bexy. You obviously have a sensitized mind right now. Easier said than done I appreciate, but you need to stop looking for 100% certainty with everything. If we reassure you about something in the state of mind you are in, you will in x amount of time just come up with another "but what if...?" So reassurance will only have a short term effect. Gotta start taking some risks in life. It will do you good for the long term - which is the key.

yeah the skin cancer fear is common - I used to have it too. Sounds like you have good GPs, but all the 'what if's' are to do with your health anxiety and worry, rather than cancer
