View Full Version : My Operation is Tomorrow

Not sure which heading was best for this!

Finally, the operation to remove my gallbladder is due! I'm going into hospital at 7.30am, that's the worst part as I hate getting up early. My anxiety kicked off back in May when I had tummy pain and then had repeated tests and scans until August when I finally got a diagnosis. Until I knew it was gallstones, I had imagined the worst illness imaginable and lost a lot of weight.

I just want the op over and done with so I can get on with my life pain-free. Thanks to everyone who has advised and helped me, I'll let you know how I am when I can.

:hugs:

Hi Hazel

I hope you dont suffer too much with anxiety tomorrow, just keep focusing on the fact that it will all be over soon and you wont have to worry about it anymore.
I hope you recover quickly and can be back to NMP soon!

You're doing really well Hazel. I was such a drama queen after I had mine done in Nov. I thought the pain was horrendous but you haven't complained at all.. well done! x

Hazel B
05-01-11, 17:53
Thanks Tish, I'm quite good with pain but having scars on my abdomen is odd. Sneezing, coughing and laughing are too painful.

Did you get back to normal after your op? Can you eat fatty food again? Thanks.

I was a bit naughty today as I drove to the local shops. I hate asking for help, but had to go for a lie down afterwards so will take it easy tomorrow.:noangel:x

gaaron

ooh you naughty girl:D, hope you bought something nice. Glad to hear you're progressing nicely x

06-01-11, 10:37
Hi hazel.. I know what you mean about the sneezing, coughing etc. It hurt! and also, yawning. I couldn't sleep on my side for weeks but I'm getting there now after 2 months. When I went for my check up with the surgeon after 6 weeks, I told him I still have some pain but he explained that although the scars have healed nicely, the muscle they have to cut through inside takes much longer to heal. That's why you must take care with stretching and lifting for up to 12 weeks after the op. I can eat whatever I like with no problems. For the first few weeks though, I felt like I'd had a gastric band fitted and could only manage small portions. I was delighted to lose 4lbs! Unfortunately, I overindulged at Christmas and have put 3 back on!
Take care, you're doing really well xx

Hazel B
06-01-11, 12:21
Thanks Gaaron, hope you're OK.

Thanks Tish for the advice, I will rest more now you've told me that, it makes sense. Driving was awful as you stretch so much.

Going to just take it easy today, watch some films and read and NOTHING else!

:D

Take care of yourself.

I just baked a banana cake and even the stirring was an effort!

No more activity now, I promise! :whistles:

gaaron

mind those muscles!
Banana cake, yum yum, it's years since I made that (probably longer than the ages of some people on here).
I'll sit down and a have a cup of tea and a virtual piece of cake now..:) -I've got some bananas so I can pretend

:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao: Ow!

I've started baking since the anxiety started and I had counselling, never dreamed of anything so domestic before! Not sure if it means I'm more settled/middle-aged or just greedy!

Had a lovely snooze earlier, would love to go to the sales but I must be patient.:lac:

gaaron
06-01-11, 20:02
I've had spates of 'baking' throughout my life for various reasons. But from what you've thought I've realised it's when I'm more 'settled' when I do it.:). Glad you had a snooze.

Must be more settled now 'cos I conjured up these in the interval...

Thanks Helen.

Had a quiet day, hoping to go shopping tomorrow if I can beg a lift, just for an hour to get some fresh air.:D

Abdomen still very sore.:weep:

I've got some "BioOil" ready for when the scars heal up, it's supposed to help.

Loads of people say bio-oil is good.
Nice to hear you're alive :shades: x

PoppyC
07-01-11, 21:29
Hi Hazel
Bio-oil, I think, is very good for scars. I use it on some scars that I have.
Hope you are soon feeling less sore. :hugs:

Hazel B
07-01-11, 22:23
Thanks Gaaron and Poppy. Hope you're both OK.:hugs:

Am very sore tonight; going to going to be lazy tomorrow. The shopping place is a small retail park, I'll see how I feel after a sleep. I've read that it can take 12 weeks for muscles to heal so must take care not to overdo it.

Anxiety has been quite low since the day of the op, that's a good thing.:yesyes:

gaaron
