Hi everyone,

I have been on cipramil on and off for the last 7 years....the longest time i was of it was for about 2 years where i managed and went fairly well.....

Most of if not all of my anxiety comes from my childhood and through failed relationships and generally not letting the past go and being affraid of the future......sound familiar to alot of you no doubt?

My dose of Cipramil has varied from 20mg to 40mg during the early parts ..... to 60mg to 80mg in the last 12 months....(no doubt the most stressfull time with lots of change etc for the better of course) Im currently on 70mg a day.....

My Gp is great and has always kept an open mind on my recovery etc....my high dose on Cipramil is due to having a good tollerance to it etc and because it has worked for me etc.

At the moment im about to start counselling again.... I suffer from Panic Disorder and a little bit of everything from time to time like you all understand!!!

I seem to be able to get to a certain stage in recovery (after experiencing a rough week or 2 with anxiety) go for a period of time of no panic( or controlled anxiety) sometimes for a couple of months then things catch up with me and i go back into a little hole then start the process all over again.....

One of the reasons i go back to being anxious is no doubt to do with my past and not being able to let go of it..... I miss my ex, miss being a kid, miss not having any responsibility, miss loved ones gone before us, miss the good old days (im 31 now) and in general when im anxious i miss the "non anxious times"... there is also a fear of the future..... the what ifs....the maybes and the world ending etc......

My ex and i get on well and are friends, we were together on and off for 5 years and have a gorgeous daughter together....... i have my daughter 3 nights a week which is awesome...... i work full time...... play lawn bowls etc at a very high level and still try and get out to socialise...... im not trapped by my anxiety but i feel like im at a bit of a hurdle and want to get to the next stage of recovery.....

Part of the holding me back thing is no doubt my thinking patterns and probably not doing enough to feed my soul etc.....

My doctor has mentioned to me in the past 6 months about lexapro and perhaps giving it a try......along with knuckling down with counselling and doing kinder things for myself....

My natural reaction was NO way im not changing, fearing the side affects.... going on another drug etc...... all that jazz and just really being anxious about changing....

However i had to see another doctor the other day as mine was on holidays and she was lovely, told me what i was on at the moment was fine but a change might be ok as well.......

I did some research and have found out that Cip and lex are made by the same company and are very closely related which makes me less anxious as its like the newer version of Cip....

My question is what are peoples experiences on here from changing from Cipramil to Lexapro..... has it helped you? what diferences have you found? where the side affects as strong as you thought ( is it any less cause there from the same core drug etc)

I look forward to anyones comments, its much appreciated....

My Dr is back from holidays on the 10th Jan so im booked in for a discussion then.....

Thanks again and Happy new year.

:)

Hi, I am changing from ciprimil to lexapro now...well I got the generic version escitalopram. My dr said I could increase the ciprimil to 40mg or I should seriously consider moving to the lexapro as 20mg is the same as 40 of ciprimil. I ummed and aahed as ciprimil had been working but another friend used lexapro and had great results so I thought I will give it a try. It is only day 2 - no major symptoms. Yesterday I felt headachey and a bit like my eyes were blurry but I had that the first time I took ciprimil. I guess how I feel at the moment is nothing really - neither up nor down. I can do things and function fine. But it could also just be boredom!! I can keep you updated if you like?

Day 4 - still pretty much the same. Fuzzy eye feeling gone! No headaches. Little bit nervy in tummy but that comes and goes. If I keep busy it's usually ok and even when doesn't go it's tolerable. I can do stuff and go places. So I guess so far I would say I'm not quite there yet in that comfortable stage where every moment isn't centred around how I'm feeling but I don't feel different to how I was feeling on ciprimil on 30mg. How are you travelling?

Day 9 - All good and has been for a few days. I would say overall the switch has been successful and quite trouble free. Maybe if I'd increased ciprimil it would have been ok too but it has not been bad to make the switch at all. Aside from the odd headache and first day fuzzy feeling have had no other side effects. Feel better and it has been a positive experience for me! Good luck!

Lexapro is similar to Cipramil, but purer. Why one works for some people better than the pther, no idea
