hi liz

i have very few panic attacks but have had chest pain , with few exceptions, for about the last four years.

it is one of my greatest fears and a symptom i struggle to live with , but apparently it is a combination of muscular, tension and just anxiety itself

i know first hand that this symptom is a hard one to cope with but you are not alone

Hi Liz and welcome to the site. I am sure the chest pains are just anxiety related, but know what you mean by not being anxious until the chest pains make you anxious I get the same feel ok then some pains bring on the anxiety. Our bodies get all sorts of different feeling and pains its usually just the body working but with us anxious people we take to much notice of them then get all stressed and tensed up which only makes the pains worst. Why don’t you ask your GP for an ECG? tell him it will make you feel better and put your mind at rest, I have done this with my GP just explain how much its worrying you and could you have one just to put your mind at rest. Most surgeries have an ECG machine at the surgery and the nurse does it, but even if they haven’t it’s only a 30 second test. I have recently had one at GP's and also got sent to the hospital for a treadmill ECG and they where all fine, then we find something ells to worry about LOL. Hope you feel better soon. Vernon

Hi

I had a slight chest pain today, which made me panic so much i had a panic attack. Then the pain stayed with me all day. I only had to think
about the chest pain, and it seemed to be there.

The pain is all in my back too, i feel like iv have been kicked all over.

I always panic when i get a chest pain and that just makes them worse.

Like u Liz they have made me feel so down today, infact i havent felt so low in ages. most of the anxiety symptoms, although not pleasant i can deal with just, but chest pain is the worse for me.

I had them last year for months, but my anti d's that i was given helped me and they gradually stopped.

I have alot of stress this year and the medication just doesnt seem to be helping anymore.

I wish i could learn how to relax but i find it really hard

I have had what I call palpatations on and off for a few years, I have been prescribed various tablets over the years, none seem to do the trick, has anyone else been prescribed tablets?

I was sent for an ecg and nothing was found, slightly high blood pressure, because of my diabetes they said I would have to take medications ... I hate taking medication..

I am on Insulin and metformin for diabetes, tablets for cholesterol, tablets for blood pressure, tablets for the rapid heart beats, tablets for depression, and iron tablets because I am aneamic ...

Just the thought of all that stuff gives me panic attacks ...
Why dont doctors talk anymore, I really do not believe they care one iota...

hi lizmarshalll.....
For one thing people who experience PA's have different symptoms...we are all not the same. I have PD. Symptoms of a panic attack can inlcue: nausea, vomittng, dizziness, chest pain, chest tightening, heart rate rises, sweating, blurred vision, unable to speak/move....some have a few some may have all..they all vary. I get chest pains myself and I feel like my chest is caving in, and my heart races...and I feel like it will never stop....so your chest pains are not uncommom.
Have you been diagnosed and are you receiving treatment? I have found that helpful after being PA free for 3 years and then getting them again. If you go to google.com and type in "panic" and "symptoms" it can give you a more accurate description.
I hope you are doing well, and don't let the panic get you down. YOu are no alone in this battle, and it sucks...to be blunt....but if we don't give up we can achieve our goals...I was pretty much panic free for 3 years and I plan to do it again...hopefully for life.

I have a lot of the symptoms that you and the other who have posted - been having them on and off for 10 years now!

Panic and anxiety are insidious and can ruin your life if your let them. Sometimes it's hard to work out whether the panic and anxiety casue the symptoms or whether the symptoms exacerbate the anxiety. Has your GP ever tested you for fibromyalgia? I was diagnosed 5 years ago due to persistent aches, pains and burning sensations in my limbs, chest. Fibro symptoms can present even when you're not having a painic attack and are so similar to anxiety symptoms and chronic tension in the muscles. It's not life threatening but it can help to explain what you're describing.

Incidentally, I also wake up feeling terrible in the morning - nauseated, lower aching back and not altogether 'with it' so-to-speak. This tends to come periodically. It can be as a result of the fibro but also as anxiety - what Claire Weekes calls 'that dreaded morning feeling'. All very common for us anxious types.

Hi Liz, I have chest paints constantly, just under my left breast. Its there constantly & kida wraps itself round into my upper back on the left hand side. I ended up at casualty last Monday & had all the usual tests i.e. ECG, full blood tests, x-ray, thyroid tests; all came back normal. They said it was probably anxiety related as it causes muscular skeletal problems so I'm taking Co-codamol, which are just painkillers. I started Prozac 2 weeks ago & take Diazepam as & when needed. Seems to be doing to trick for me, but the chest pains still there. The chest pains are my biggest worry because yo always think its your heart. I'm trying to learn to live with it but sometimes the pains are so sharp they take my breath away for a few seconds.

You're not alone with this honestly.
