i just cant shake this anxiety over skin cancer....i have had ALL my moles checked and they say they are all fine but i have one on my ear that is brown/tan color round and raised, it has been there for about 6 yrs or so..i am worried that it is a nodular melenoma even though my dr said it is fine and he is a skin specialist..i have googled it and it said sometimes melenomas can be mis diagnosed as normal moles . i just keep thnking i have had it there for so long if it was anything i would have had a sign of bleeding or something by now . i just am going insane...i have even looked into paying up to 300 pounds to get it removed privatly ..any advice please:weep:

bexy I did reply to a previous thread of yours with no response but I'm going to say the same thing hun.

Your moles have been checked over and over by your doc who is an expert in these matters and he has said you are fine, unfortunately this doesn't seem to be putting your mind at rest at all.

I'm not sure if you have even addressed the possibility that all these fears are down to Health Anxiety but maybe it's time to do so?

You have mentioned that you are willing to pay a lot of money for the removal of moles that a specialist has told you are non-cancerous, that isn't a rational action hun but one that is driven by your HA.

Please think about the possibility of getting some help for yourself because this constant checking and asking for reassurance here must be exhausting.

Take care :flowers:

Hi, I've been there - moles don't worry me now, now it's something else ha ha ha :)

Anyway, melanoma is actually quite rare. Rather than blowing three hundred quid on mole removal, why not spend it on a holiday or something or maybe more counselling?

If it's any consolation I was convinced I had skin cancer and used to dream about it. Now I never think about, but sadly, I still suffer from anxiety about my health, it's just moved on

If you had a nodular melenoma for 6 years you would be dead by now. Its very aggressive type. nodular melanoma happens in less than 10% of melanoma cases and as someone has already said melanoma isn't that common in the first place so to get a rare sub type is even rarer. You have been checked by an expert so take confidence from that and know your moles are perfectly fine.

Have you taken pictures of your moles? this is what helped me. You can then compare them to your moles each month and look for change which is whats important when detecting these things. Its also a lot cheaper and better for you than biopsing beign moles.

Ok so I have been to my doctor again!! He checked the mole on my ear and said it is nice and squidy were as the type of cancer I was worried about presents as a firm bump not a squashy one, also said I wud be dead by now if I had a nodular melenoma that was sat on my ear for a few years!!! I feel ok but thos is where the ocd kicks in and I keep checking my mole is still squashy!! Hence it is sore now!! How do I break this obsession and enjoy my life with my young family

Stop constantly checking and poking and prodding.

You would also benefit from CBT therapy I think

We do develop new moles, blemishes etc all the time - that is perfectly normal.

Why not take some photos of them all so you can compare them next time you are worried

for 6 years i found increasing moles and freckles and i was told its part of ageing and can happen at any age but i was told it happens to everyone at some stage of life - i have a mole like you say at my ear and i was told i simply had lovely ears and not to worry about moles - particularly at my age (24) the only time to worry about moles is if you have dark patches throughout your skin and they get much bigger - however a visit to your GP will diagnose it 100% accurately, if your doc says there is nothing to worry about then he/she is right. Please trust them. they see these problems everyday!
