hi all,

does anyone ever get this -

my vision looks like it blinks all the time when im not. like ya know when u blink quickly and u see black for about half a second, well thats what i keep getting. like a flash, like my vision completely goes for half a second..

another way of describing is if a light in a shop is faulty, and it flickers... thats what m vision does.

i get it everyday, some days more than others, happens alot more in shops but i spose that could be coz i notice it more in bright lights..?

oh and to clarify, I am NOT blinking. Its not a flash of light. It literally looks like ive blinked, or a light is faulty in the room...

Ive had a brain scan about 10 months ago, all normal. Eyes tested and seen by specialist, all normal.

This has only been happening the last few months tho...

does ANYONE get this????

any advice/help/personal experiences, much appreciated!!

Yes, I get this! It happens to me mainly when I am lying in bed when I look up and go to get up in the morning, like when I am not fully using my eyes yet or haven't adjusted them yet. But I think also sometimes at night when I look up and lying in bed. It's like my vision flickers as if a film were being started on a projector. Then I squeeze my eyes shut and open and usually it stops.

Hmmm mines not quite like that...its like a light has just flickered, like gone off and then on. really quickly. everything goes black for about half a second. its really weird. ive been googling and im not overly worried as it sounds like its just anxiety. i get BAD floaters too, day in day out!!! I get them alot more in supermarkets. its just weird!!! i dont see anything, just looks like a flicker, like everything goes black for literally half a second. i started worying that this is blacking out but dr.google suggests otherwise, for once lol. idont get it at any particular time, day or night, just happens all the time, everyday throguhout the day... if u blink, thats what i see, its like im bliking but im actually not!! very weird.....

Oh, I see. I also have terrible floaters (or at least am bothered terribly by the floaters I have). I am thinking that your noticing them more in supermarkets might have to do with the fact that places such as those are usually brightly lit and that's when I also notice them more. The worst places for me are at the beach on a bright summer day or on the ski slopes of a bright winter day. When I move my eyes back and forth, all the little floater clouds drap around in my field of vision. It also happened to me tonight at the gym when I was lying on the floor facing the ceiling with bright overhead lights on. Ugh! I still get anxiety from them even though I have been told by the optometrist that they are totally normal.

Btw that's partly why I am on the forum tonight because my floaters were flaring up my HA.

Hi. My 8-year-old daughter just told me that she is having the same issue. I've been searching the internet for answers and came upon this post, and as it is the most recent post (2010) and I see that you are a regular here (lots of posts under your belt) I wanted to see if you had gotten anywhere with your condition.

Everywhere I go, the people with this blackout thing all say they've seen eye doctors and neurologists, etc. but everything turns out fine test-wise. I'm going to still have my daughter checked out, but if you've come across anything new please let me know. :) I hope you are still around and receive this soon.

I get migraines myself... well, I used to get the usual painful migraines with photophobia/phonophobia and nausea/vomiting but then they stopped for a long time. Then in 2008 or so I got hit with vertigo, which we thought was benign positional but when it kept happening for literally 8 months straight, a doctor suggested they might be migraines ("MAV" or migraine associated vertigo). It's weird because I have no pain whatsoever.. just severe dizziness. I honestly do not know which is worse as the MAV lasts weeks and longer while typical migraines last maybe a day or two.

Anyway, some suggested the eye blackout thing you described could be migraine related. There is one person with this issue who said that doctors no longer want to see him anymore as they think he's making the whole thing up, which is really unfortunate.

My daughter has trouble concentrating and this eye thing could be at the root of it... she says it happens a lot when she's doing homework. She feels no pain, there is no associated dizziness, and it has stayed the same as far as she knows (isn't getting worse). She doesn't know when it first started happening (but she is only 8). I don't take these things lightly as I've personally had horrible experiences trying to get doctors to listen to me for my own problems. I've pretty much been doing their jobs for them!

Well, please contact me if you can.. Thanks!
