The recession killed us, and I need focused treatment for my anxiety and depression, otherwise all efforts are lost. Could I really manage without therapy ? Any ideas ?

Hi. I saw a bunch of therapists, but the biggest gain periods I made were from Bibliotherapy (reading and treating myself). So absolutely you could manage. Therapists are there to guide you. You can still learn things yourself.

There is also the folllowing self help online therapy that you can do at this website. There is a free 12 week (1 module per week) self help course you can do. The Therapy Assisted 12 week (1 module per week) is only available for Australian Residents. (That was the set-up as of May 2010.) http://www.anxietyonline.org.au/

This site is free to join and use and can help with anxiety and depression. A lot of the material is based on CBT and I found it good in changing my negative thinking.

No more panic is the perfect support IMO.

You could use the library to get self help books, alternatively I have found writing a diary very useful. That and this site and positive thinking will help you. Along with lots of brisk walks and fresh air.

Good luck hunx

Hi
I have been in the cycle of anxiety for years, i worry about everything, there isn't anything i don't worry about,
I am on incapacity benefit and even when i went for the yearly medical the dr said i should be seen by someone but my doctor said there is no funding and i would have to pay for it myself (very helpful dr) I can't afford this so am stuck in limbo!

Everyone says you have to change your way of thinking, easier said than done.

I really havent anything helpful to say except to tell you you are not alone in this.
I am thinking of you and good luck X
