I found this interesting and thought some other people might too.

Psychosomatic illnesses were discussed on QI this week, the episode is available here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00xn7fr/QI_XL_Series_8_Hypnosis_Hallucinations_and_Hysteri a/

I think it's at about 28:20 that they talk about hysterical illnesses. If you can't see because you are not in England/have seen this after the video has been taken down. It explains that there is a theory that the symptoms of any physical illness can be felt by people for psychological reasons.

Also, psychosomatic/hysterical illnesses can cause extreme symptoms - in the case they talk about here, it can cause blindness and muteness.

It's only a small excerpt but, like I say, I found it interesting and it may help people who worry that anxiety couldn't cause the symptoms they have or who feel offended when doctor's ask them if they have been under a lot of stress etc.

Now, I've been procrastinating on here all day, I really have to make myself go do some work!

Hope this helps someone
