I have never posted on this website before or even on an internet forum before but I have been so moved by some stories that I have read on here over the last few months and the help that those stories have been to me that I have decided to post my success story on here in the hope that is will help others out there like me.

I have suffered from OCD all my life usually through times of stress and it manifests itself in the form usually called 'pure - o' which is the very scary thoughts - which i don't want to go into here but those of you who have had it will know what a mean. I have always been able to manage the OCD through CBT and hold down very successful career and what would appear to many to be the perfect life.

however in the summer I was suddenly struck down with severe anxiety, panic attacks and terrible OCD thoughts - I lost a stone in weight in 2/3 weeks, i had a lump in my throut all the time - I was unable to think straight and thought I was going mad. I was very very scared. I did the usual of thinking I had a brain tumour etc and went to the doctor who looking at my history in 5 seconds recommended prozac to me.

I refused saying that I wanted full medical tests before I moved onto that - denying to my self that stress and anxiety could cause all of these symptoms.

However after the tests all came back negative and having been through OCD before I insisted on seeing a specialist phsychiatrist which i paid for myself - he diganosed severe anxiety and stress and set me off on a path which has turned my live around all my symptoms have gone as has my OCD - I want to share with you what I have been doing over the past months as some of it may work for you :-

1. I now take 20mg of prozac - yes it was hell for the first week but has been worth it.

2. I now meditate every day for at least 20 minutes

3. I take - Vitamin C, B, Magazium, Cromium, Flax Seed Oil, Multi Vit

4. I now run every other day and yoga on the other days.l

5. I have taken the time to explore and strenghten my relationship with God

6. I took a course in Mindfullness - which teaches you to experience the thoughts and feelings of OCD and anxiety

7. took the time to read and inform myself of my illness and the reasons for it :-

Stress Related illness - Dr Tim Cantopher - fantastic insight into what doing too much can do to your mind

Full Catastrophe Living - Jon Kabat-Zinn - book on Mindfullness which provides an 8 week program

The mindfull way through depression - Jon Kabat-Zinn and others - fantastic CD with this book

Self Help for your nerves - Claire Weekes - amazing book

The Anxity Phobia Work book - Edmund Bourne - I have followed his progamme almost to the tee and it has worked for me.

I hope this is not too long a post - I wanted so much to write on here because when this happened to me recently I was so scared and I now realise you don't have to be and you are not alone - I have been very honest with friends and family and it is amazing how many people have been through it as well - it is always the strong ones!
