Hello All.

Reading through the forums, I can see the same desperation in trying to find 'answers' and help that I have experience.

The NHS is a waste of time. I have been waiting over a year to have any kind of fruitful contact with 'professionals', quite ironic as I work in mental health.

After 7 years of hell, I finally snapped. My GP and CPN have been great, but they are limited in only being able to do what they are told they can do.

This prompted me to look for some kind of support group. In my search, I came across a charity based in Rugby called ASSIST. They are BRILLIANT and have helped me more in the past couple of months than anything else. They have provided me with professional councelling (FREE OF CHARGE).

If you live in the general area yuo REALLY SHOULD check them out - give them a ring. The web address is http://www.traumatic-stress.freeserve.co.uk/

Also, I have just started a 'support' site that aims to be a place where people can discuss experiences of living with PTSD, rather than the causes and treatments.

The URL is http://ptsdwarks.bravehost.com/

All contributions are welcome.

Martyn,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for making people aware of ASSIST.

It seems that they can support people wherever they live, as they have a telephone service etc. You could edit the title of your post if you like.

Also well done on taking the iniative in setting up your web site - is this confied to your local area?

Cheers,

Ray

Hello and thanks for the posts.

ASSIST are really good - easy going and very supportive.

I don't think they are confined to the local area because I know they do a lot of contract work in various places. The best thing to do is give them a call.

As far as my website is concerned, anyone is welcome who needs to 'let rip' or help each other out via the site - it's no problem at all.

If there is anyone in the Coventry/Nuneaton sort of area who fancies getting together as a sort of self-help support group - please let me know.
