Is it common to get blood when you cough up phelgm or when you spit if you've been having a painful sore throat & itchy ears?

Yes you can sometimes cough up phlegm with blood traces in if you have a throat virus.

Sounds like you have a virus that lots of us have had during and post Christmas. Especially with the sore throat and itchy ears - all indicates the bug :ohmy:

Consult the doc. if it persists or you cough up or vomit blood alone - obviously!

I am sure you will be fine - just sounds like you have a really sore throat. Try gargling and take some paracetomol. :)
