The positive stuff first (in no particular order):

- Swimming.
- Using a timer (to motivate myself).
- My electric blanket.
- Walking in the countryside.
- A good book or film.
- Gardening.
- Mussels.
- Facing my fears.

Things that don't:

- Too much alcohol.
- Obsessing.
- Coffee.
- Skipping meals.
- The news.
- Toxic people.
- Avoiding my fears.

What a great idea for a thread. :)

Things that help me:
challenging myself
keeping busy but getting enough rest
laughing
bubble baths!
documenting my successes

Things that don't:
googling
dwelling
bottling things up
avoiding situations
being lazy

Yes, great idea for a thread :)

Things that help me:
Long baths
Exercise
Being with my friends
Sticking to a timetable
Being in the countryside
Eating well

Things that don't:
Procrastinating (particularly procrastinating here while I'm supposed to be working :-/)
Giving myself targets and telling myself everything will go wrong if I don't meet them!
Comparing myself to other people
Moping
Eating unhealthily
Assuming that if I don't have "...." I will never be happy

being lazy

Just read yesterday that sometimes it's a bad idea to assume you are lazy because you're not doing things, because you're telling yourself you are a lazy person that will never do things!

You reminded me of it so I thought I'd share. It was in a CBT book I'm reading :)

that's really interesting haras! i get really guilty if i'm not doing anything. like after work i'll be dying to chill out and watch tele but i'll spend all night cleaning/cooking/doing chores etc. it's weird... i've been told recently that i always have loads of ideas and don't act on them, which has really had an impact on me and made me really hate the word lazy!

thanks for sharing x

No probs. From what I've read, calling yourself lazy will make you do less stuff anyway! You should try some time planning techniques. I'm either like you - too much to do and never spend any time having fun - or just moping and doing nothing! At the moment I am timetabling my days the night before and trying to fit pleasurable activities in as well as work. You try to keep to the timetable but it doesn't matter if you don't. You just leave another column to fill in what you actually did and then give yourself a rating of how you felt it went (if it was work) or how enjoyable you found it (if it's something pleasurable). Apparently just the act of doing this will help you get a more balanced lifestyle and it highlights the areas of your life that are making you feel worse (for me it WILL be procrastinating!). Hope this helps :) I've only just started doing it so I can't tell if it works yet!
